LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - Colorado College took over sole possession of first place in the SCAC standings thanks to its two SCAC wins over the week. The Tigers outscored Dallas and Southwestern by a 38-5 score.
AROUND THE SCAC
Centenary (0-5, 0-2 SCAC) had its game with
Colorado College postponed because of lightning and thus did not
play during the week. The Gents are scheduled to return to action
on April 5 when they host Southwestern in SCAC action.
Colorado College began its quest for a fourth consecutive
SCAC regular-season title with road victories at Dallas and
Southwestern. During Friday’s 23-1 win over the Crusaders, CC
tied its season high with 23 goals and the one marker allowed was
the fewest in a game since a 28-0 blanking of Oglethorpe University
on April 8, 2011. Seventeen Tigers struck for at least one goal,
with freshman attacker Chris Lee leading the way with three.
Sophomore midfielder Nick Ahrens, who had had a pair of tallies and
three assists, and freshman attackman Evan Meister, who scored once
and set up four others, finished with five points apiece. Four
freshmen - long-stick midfielders Sumner Crosby and John Tocchio,
midfielder Ian Pelto and attacker Jacob Rockwell – all
recorded their first collegiate goal. The Colorado College defense
was led by freshman midfielder Matthew Hess, who won all 10 of his
faceoffs and grabbed a game-high nine ground balls. Sophomore
midfielders Brooks Pinnick and Sayre Thomas caused three turnovers
apiece. The Tigers took over first place in the conference with a
15-4 victory at Southwestern on Sunday. CC held an opponent to
fewer than five goals for the fifth time this season and they broke
the contest open with eight unanswered tallies in the second
quarter to build an 11-0 lead after 30 minutes. Sunday’s
second game against Centenary was postponed due to lightning.
Colorado College, which improved to 22-0 all-time in regular-season
SCAC games, returns to action on April 7 with a home game against
Dallas at 1 p.m.
Dallas (1-5, 1-2 SCAC) fell 23-1 to Colorado College on
Friday afternoon in Irving, Texas, to go 0-1 on the week. Freshman
goalkeeper Ryan Murphy made 29 saves for the Crusaders, and junior
attack Tony Lemos provided the team's lone score. Sophomore
midfielder Cody Wooten assisted Lemos. Dallas will rematch the
Tigers on Sunday at 1 p.m. MST in Colorado Springs,
Colo.
Southwestern lost its first conference game to Colorado
College 15-4. Charlie Fisher, first year Goalie for the Pirates
played well with 14 saves. Jeremy Tufnell junior midfielder scored
2 goals, while senior attackman Jamie Long scored 2 goals and 1
assist. The Pirates are now 2 -1 in conference and 5-7 overall.
