Trinity’s Jorgens & Garrett headline 2012 All-SCAC Women's Soccer voting

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - In exclusive voting by the head women's soccer coaches of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC), Trinity University's Emily Jorgens was selected SCAC Offensive Player-of-the-Year while teammate Katie Garrett was named SCAC Defensive Player-of-the-Year. Complete Release

In the same balloting, Rebecca Brunter of the University of Dallas was tabbed the league's Newcomer-of-the-Year and Dallas head coach Kristina Corona was voted SCAC Women's Coach-of-the-Year for the first time.

Jorgens, a sophomore midfielder from Austin, Texas, was the catalyst for the Tiger offense as she led the league in assists (18), assists per game (1.00) and game-winning goals (4). She ranked second in the SCAC in a host of categories including points (34), points per game (1.89), shots (69) and shots per game (3.83). Jorgens was sixth in the league with eight goals (0.44 per game). Last year as a first-year player, Jorgens was a second team All-SCAC selection. With her honor, Jorgens becomes the fourth consecutive Trinity player to be named the league's Offensive Player-of-the-Year (Brianna Young 2009 Abigail Loar 2010-2011).

Garrett, a senior goalkeeper from Joshua, Texas, led the SCAC in goals against average (0.57) and save percentage (.827). She played in all 19 games for the Tigers, including 12 starts, and ranked fifth in the conference with 43 saves (2.26 per game). Garrett became just the second goalkeeper to be named the SCAC Defensive Player-of-the-Year since the award was first recognized in  2003 and only the third goalkeeper in league history to be named either Player-of-the-Year or Defensive Player-of-the-Year. She was a prime reason the Tigers won 13 of their 15 games via shutouts in 2012.

Brunter, a first-year forward from Los Alamitos, Calif., tied for eighth in the SCAC both with 14 points and six goals. Brunter helped lead the Crusaders to the SCAC championship game in Dallas' second season as a member of the SCAC. She also was tied for second in the league with her three game-winning goals. Brunter tied for third among her teammates with six goals and her 14 points were fourth among Crusader players. Brunter tied for the team-lead with her three game-winning goals. Brunter becomes the first University of Dallas women's soccer player to be honored with an individual SCAC Player-of-the-Year award.

Brunter received three votes in the Newcomer-of-the-Year voting, while sophomore defender Carley Kocel of Trinity received two votes for Newcomer-of-the-Year.

Kristina Corona, in her third year as head coach at Dallas, led the Crusaders to their first-ever appearance in the SCAC Championship game where they fell to Trinity 1-0. She guided the Crusaders to a  4-3-1 conference mark and 12-8-1 overall mark. The 4-3-1 SCAC record was a two game improvement from a year ago and the 12-8-1 overall record was an improvement on last season's 11-7-2 season.

Corona has posted a 30-26-4 record (.533) in her three seasons at the helm of the women's soccer program at Dallas. The SCAC Coach-of-the-Year award is the first one of her career.

Corona received three votes from her peers in the COTY voting. Lance Key of Trinity received the remaining two votes.
