AROUND THE SCAC
In more than two weeks off action, Centenary
returned to the field on Saturday at the University of Dallas. The
Gents scored a season-best eight goals in the 16-8 defeat against
UD. The loss continues the five game slide for the first year
program. Colton Cowley led the Gents with a career-high seven goals
on 12 shots with Garrett Wick adding the other goal for the Maroon
and White. Matt Letcher tallied 15 saves in net for Centenary. The
Gents return to action on Mar. 21 against Colorado College.
Colorado College opened its five-game Spring
Break schedule with victories over Wheaton College (9-4) and Babson
College (7-2). With the score tied at 1-1 late in the second
quarter, Jack Kreitler ignited the Tigers' attack when he scored
back-to-back goals during a 4-0 run that gave CC a lead it would
not give up. Seven seconds after Kreitler’s second tally,
sophomore midfielder Henri Halle grabbed a loose ball off the
faceoff and found Tyler Allen to the left of the cage. The junior
attackman struck for the Tigers' fourth tally in a span of 3:19 and
notched what proved to be the game-winning goal. Wheaton scored
three times in the second half, but each time the Tigers answered
with a goal of their own. The Lyons trimmed their deficit to three
36 seconds into the fourth quarter, but Halle put an end to any
thoughts of a Wheaton comeback when he scored twice in a span 3:21
to give Colorado College an 8-3 lead with 2:10 to play. Halle tied
his career highs with three goals, two assists and five points. CC
made the most of its first appearance at one of the meccas of
lacrosse, using five consecutive goals in the second quarter to
post a 7-2 victory over Babson College on Saturday night at Johns
Hopkins University. Freshman goaltender Chase Murphy stopped 14
shots, the third time this season he finished with double-digit
saves. Colorado College puts its three-game winning streak on the
line when it visits No. 7 Salisbury University on Wednesday night.
The Tigers finish the road trip on Friday night at No. 3 Dickinson
College.
Dallas (1-3, 1-0 SCAC) went 1-1 on the week.
The Crusaders fell 15-7 to Huntingdon College on Tuesday afternoon
in Montgomery, Ala. Freshman midfielder Matt Cyr not only tallied
the first goal of his career, but ended with a hat trick in defeat.
The tide turned for head coach Jeff Guy's squad on Saturday
afternoon in Irving, Texas. Fueled by junior attack Tony Lemos' 10
points (seven goals, three assists), Dallas prevailed 16-8 over
Centenary College of Louisiana in their conference opener. Freshman
goalkeeper Ryan Murphy registered 15 saves in victory. Dallas hosts
Southwestern University on Sunday at 1 p.m.
