AROUND THE SCAC

Austin College women’s soccer team got a goal from Abby Saizow in the 104th minute of action to give the ‘Roos a dramatic 2-1 double overtime victory over Centenary College on Saturday in Shreveport. The ‘Roos are now 5-10-1 overall with the win. Tyler Marquez put the ‘Roos on the board first when she scored on a feed from Ariel Marder in the 20th minute of action, and Austin College maintained their lead until the 70th minute when Centenary equalized. The score remained 1-1 through the first overtime and into the second extra frame, when Saizow scored on an assist from Lauren Scott at the 103:05 mark to give the ‘Roos the win. Emily Brockette had a pair of saves in the victory as Austin College owned an 18-10 shot advantage. The ‘Roos are home this weekend when they take on Dallas and East Central Oklahoma to finish out the regular season with Homecoming Weekend.

Centenary (3-8-1, 0-7) was 0-1 in its only match this week, losing a double-overtime heartbreaker to Austin College at home. The loss extended the Ladies losing streak to six matches and spoiled their bid for their first conference SCAC win. Centenary hosts three straight matches to end the season, including a break from SCAC play against Texas College Oct. 23 at 5 p.m. Centenary wraps up the regular season Oct. 28 against the University of Dallas and Oct. 30 against Louisiana College.

Dallas (9-7-1, 2-3-1 SCAC) went 0-1-1 on the week in a pair of SCAC contests to round out their home schedule. Friday brought Southwestern University to Crusader Field. The defensive struggle of a game ended in a scoreless 2OT draw. Dallas celebrated 'Senior Day' on Sunday versus No. 9 Trinity University -- Marin Chambers and Michelle Carpenter were honored before the first whistle. Trinity headed into halftime with a 3-0 lead before eventually winning 7-1 in Irving, Texas. The Crusaders take to the road this week to complete their 2012 regular season. Coach Corona's squad will visit Austin College (Friday) and Centenary College of Louisiana (Sunday).

Southwestern
went 0-1-1 in action this week to move to 6-9-1 on the season, 4-2-1 in the SCAC. The Pirates took on Texas Lutheran University on Tuesday night in their annual Pink Out game. After a scoreless first half where the Pirates controlled the match, TLU turned things around and scored the game winner with 13:30 to play. Cailey McLain was inches from scoring the equalizer with seconds left on the clock, but her rocket shot bounced off the crossbar as the horn sounded, handing TLU the win. On Friday, 110 minutes of action couldn't decide the match as Southwestern and the University of Dallas ended in a scoreless, double-overtime, tie. Southwestern remains in second place in the SCAC as they close out regular season action with a senior night contest against Huston-Tillotson on Tuesday night and close things out in San Antonio against Trinity on Friday night.

No. 7 Trinity
earned a conference win in its only game last week, defeating the University of Dallas 7-1 on Sunday afternoon. The Tigers have clinched the #1 seed at the SCAC Tournament following the weekend results, improving to 7-0-0 in conference play. Trinity is also 11-1-2 overall this season, with just one regular season game remaining. Lauren Henderson and Shelby Guenthardt scored two goals each in Sunday’s victory, while Emily Jorgens added a goal and three assists. Kelsey Falcone also had a hand in two of the goals, picking up a goal and an assist. Mariah Risk also scored her second goal of the season in the win.
