LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - Austin College picked up a 2-1 double overtime victory at Centenary College on Saturday. The win keeps the Kangaroos (9 points) just ahead of the University of Dallas (7 points) for the No. 3 seed in the upcoming SCAC tournament.
AROUND THE SCAC
Austin College women’s soccer team got a
goal from Abby Saizow in the 104th minute of action to give the
‘Roos a dramatic 2-1 double overtime victory over Centenary
College on Saturday in Shreveport. The ‘Roos are now 5-10-1
overall with the win. Tyler Marquez put the ‘Roos on the
board first when she scored on a feed from Ariel Marder in the 20th
minute of action, and Austin College maintained their lead until
the 70th minute when Centenary equalized. The score remained 1-1
through the first overtime and into the second extra frame, when
Saizow scored on an assist from Lauren Scott at the 103:05 mark to
give the ‘Roos the win. Emily Brockette had a pair of saves
in the victory as Austin College owned an 18-10 shot advantage. The
‘Roos are home this weekend when they take on Dallas and East
Central Oklahoma to finish out the regular season with Homecoming
Weekend.
Centenary (3-8-1, 0-7) was 0-1 in its
only match this week, losing a double-overtime heartbreaker to
Austin College at home. The loss extended the Ladies losing streak
to six matches and spoiled their bid for their first conference
SCAC win. Centenary hosts three straight matches to end the season,
including a break from SCAC play against Texas College Oct. 23 at 5
p.m. Centenary wraps up the regular season Oct. 28 against the
University of Dallas and Oct. 30 against Louisiana College.
Dallas (9-7-1, 2-3-1 SCAC) went 0-1-1 on the
week in a pair of SCAC contests to round out their home schedule.
Friday brought Southwestern University to Crusader Field. The
defensive struggle of a game ended in a scoreless 2OT draw. Dallas
celebrated 'Senior Day' on Sunday versus No. 9 Trinity University
-- Marin Chambers and Michelle Carpenter were honored before the
first whistle. Trinity headed into halftime with a 3-0 lead before
eventually winning 7-1 in Irving, Texas. The Crusaders take to the
road this week to complete their 2012 regular season. Coach
Corona's squad will visit Austin College (Friday) and Centenary
College of Louisiana (Sunday).
Southwestern went 0-1-1 in action this week to move to
6-9-1 on the season, 4-2-1 in the SCAC. The Pirates took on Texas
Lutheran University on Tuesday night in their annual Pink Out game.
After a scoreless first half where the Pirates controlled the
match, TLU turned things around and scored the game winner with
13:30 to play. Cailey McLain was inches from scoring the equalizer
with seconds left on the clock, but her rocket shot bounced off the
crossbar as the horn sounded, handing TLU the win. On Friday, 110
minutes of action couldn't decide the match as Southwestern and the
University of Dallas ended in a scoreless, double-overtime, tie.
Southwestern remains in second place in the SCAC as they close out
regular season action with a senior night contest against
Huston-Tillotson on Tuesday night and close things out in San
Antonio against Trinity on Friday night.
No. 7 Trinity earned a conference win in its only game
last week, defeating the University of Dallas 7-1 on Sunday
afternoon. The Tigers have clinched the #1 seed at the SCAC
Tournament following the weekend results, improving to 7-0-0 in
conference play. Trinity is also 11-1-2 overall this season, with
just one regular season game remaining. Lauren Henderson and Shelby
Guenthardt scored two goals each in Sunday’s victory, while
Emily Jorgens added a goal and three assists. Kelsey Falcone also
had a hand in two of the goals, picking up a goal and an assist.
Mariah Risk also scored her second goal of the season in the win.
Guenthardt took over the team lead with 12 goals, while Jorgens
moved into the lead with 28 total points – eight goals and 12
assists. Trinity finishes off its regular season with a home game
against Southwestern University on Friday evening.
