LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - Trinity University senior goal keeper Katie Garrett totaled a career-high 21 saves in the Tigers' 1-1 draw with 16th-ranked Wheaton (Ill.) on Oct. 5th. It was the most saves in a single game since Sept. 24, 2010 when Hendrix's Allison Mosley tallied 21 stops against Trinity.
AROUND THE SCAC
Austin College (4-8-1, 2-2 SCAC) went 0-2 last
week, dropping a 2-0 decision to UC-Santa Cruz on Friday before
falling to Cal Lutheran, 3-0, on Sunday. The Kangaroos return to
action on Oct. 12th and 14th when they travel to #2 Trinity and
Southwestern, respectively.
Centenary extended its losing streak to
three after dropping its only contest of the week to Dallas (4-1)
and they are still looking for their SCAC win. The three losses
bump Centenary to 3-5-1 overall and 0-4 in SCAC play. Carly
Slovensky scored Centenary’s only goal of the week. The
Ladies look to end the losing streak at Southwestern Oct. 12, the
second of their three-game road trip. They wrap up the stint away
from Mayo Field Oct. 14 at Trinity and return home Oct. 20 against
Austin College at 5 p.m.
Dallas (9-6, 2-2 SCAC) achieved a 1-1 record on the week
in a pair of home contests. Tuesday brought No. 4 Hardin-Simmons
University to Irving, Texas. The highly-touted Cowboys lived up to
their billing, defeating Dallas by a score of 5-0 in the late
afternoon affair. On Friday, the Crusaders ended a four-game
losing-skid with a 4-1 victory over Centenary College of Louisiana.
In the triumph, sophomore midfielder Michele Carpenter headlined
for Dallas. Carpenter notched two goals, giving her five scores and
two assists on the season. Dallas will not play until Friday, Oct.
19, when Southwestern University treks to Crusader
Field.
Southwestern had a bye week from action and remains at
4-8 on the season and 2-2 in the SCAC. They return to conference
action this weekend as they host Centenary College on Friday and
Austin College on Sunday.
No. 7 Trinity suffered a tough weekend on the
road, tying nationally-ranked Wheaton (Ill.) College 1-1 on Friday
evening, then losing 3-2 in double-overtime in a neutral match
against Loras College. The Tigers lost for the first time in the
last 45 regular season games, dating back to the second game of the
2010 season. Trinity has also not lost a home game in its last 42
contests, which includes postseason play. Trinity scored to take a
1-0 lead in the second half against Wheaton, but the home team came
back to tie the game, and force overtime. Tiger goalkeeper Katie
Garrett had a career game, recording 21 saves to keep Trinity in
it. The saves total is the second-highest in school history, and a
career-best for Garrett. Garrett’s 21 saves are the most in a
single game in the SCAC since Hendrix’s Allison Mosley
totaled 21 saves against Trinity on Sept. 24, 2010. The Tigers
return home for a pair of SCAC games this weekend. Trinity hosts
Austin College on Friday night, followed by a Sunday afternoon
matchup with Centenary College. The Tigers earned shutout victories
over both teams on the road earlier this year.
