SAN ANTONIO, Texas - The Tiger men's soccer team earned a 3-1 win over Claremont Mudd-Scripps College in the First Round of the NCAA Playoffs on Saturday night. Box Score

Trinity improved to 19-0-3 with the win, which was the second victory this season over Claremont.  The Tigers beat the Stags 2-0 in California in mid-September.

Jonny Lawson scored in the seventh minute of action to give Trinity the early advantage, as well as a 1-0 halftime lead.  The Tigers made it 2-0 in the opening minutes of the second half, as Victor Araujo nailed the eventual game-winner.

Claremont got on the board with a penalty kick in the 78th minute, bringing life to the visitors for the final minutes.  Just 2:22 later, though, Lawson knocked in his second goal of the day to make it a two-goal cushion again down the stretch.  Raz Forsten picked up the assist on the final goal of the game.

Trinity held a slim 15-14 lead in shots taken, but eight of the Tiger shots were on goal.  Goalkeeper Matt Cardone recorded four saves for Trinity, while Claremont had five total saves in the loss.

The Tigers will face Mississippi College in the NCAA Second Round tomorrow, which will be a rematch from a meeting earlier this season.  Trinity defeated Mississippi College 4-0 in the second game of the year.
