SAN ANTONIO, Texas - Tiger senior men's tennis player Erick DelaFuente has been selected as the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Arthur Ashe Leadership & Sportsmanship West Region honoree.

The award recognizes individuals who have exhibited outstanding sportsmanship and leadership, as well as scholastic, extracurricular, and tennis achievements.

Delafuente is a team captain of the men's squad which will compete May 20-22 at the NCAA Division III Championship at Kalamazoo, Mich. Trinity will play in the national quarterfinals for the third time in four years.

He is a two-time ITA All-American, as he first received the accolade in 2010. Delafuente won the Regional singles title in the fall of 2009. He was also named the West Region Rookie Player of the Year. In 2012, Delafuente again received the All-America distinction, for his Regional doubles title with Max Frey (fall of 2011).

Delafuente was named to the 2013 All-Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Team, and to the SCAC All-Sportsmanship Team. Delafuente stands at 11-12 in singles (largely the No. 3 slot), and is 16-12 in No. 1 doubles with sophomore Jordan Mayer (San Antonio/Churchill).

He will earn a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration this month from Trinity, with a double concentration in accounting and finance.

Head Coach Russell McMindes has led Trinity to four straight Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships and four NCAA Playoff appearances in his four years at the helm of the Tiger program.
