SHREVEPORT, La. - The Centenary Department of Athletics and Director of Athletics and Wellness Ronda Seagraves announces the hiring of Caley Carter-Knudsen as the head volleyball coach, effective July 1st.
Carter-Knudsen takes over the reins of the Ladies after serving as an assistant at Manchester University since 2011. While at MU, she tutored all-conference first team and Manchester’s Female Athlete of the Year Amanda Dickman, who led the conference in blocks and ranked nationally in Division III throughout the 2011 campaign. The Great Bend, Kansas, native also recruited and coached 2012 all-conference first team and Freshman of the Year Sarah Pruden, who led the conference in kills and points per set.
Prior to her time at MU, Carter-Knudsen served as an assistant at the University of Albany from 2010-11, where she coached Player of the Year Teresa Coppielle and Defensive Player of the Year Laurie Gonzalez.
No stranger to the Pelican State, Carter-Knudsen played collegiately at Nicholls State University earning numerous accolades including Louisiana and Southland Conference Player of the Year laurels along with being named All-Southland Conference First Team and Newcomer of the Year. She began her collegiate career as an all-region selection and all-American at Barton County Community College before transferring to the University of Tennessee.
After earning her Bachelor of Arts in General Studies at NSU, she played overseas in Denmark for five years (2004-2009) and in Finland for one season in 2010. During her stop in Denmark, she played for Fortuna Odense Volley and was part of four Danish national championship and Danish Cup champions. She was also a professional shot putter and discus thrower for the track club Odense Atletik and claimed the Danish national championship in 2009.
She is currently pursuing a Master’s Degree in Parks and Recreation Management from Frostburg State University.
Carter-Knudsen is married to Brian Knudsen.
