LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - Centenary College took over sole possession of first place in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference thanks to its series win over No. 6 Trinity University over the weekend. The Gents dropped the first game of the three game set before winning the final two to take the series.

Austin College swept its weekend series against
Southwestern University to improve to 5-4 in conference play. The
‘Roos started out the weekend with a 7-3 victory and followed
up with a 16-4 win before staging a late inning comeback to take a
5-2 win in game three on Sunday. CJ Adame had a huge weekend at the
plate, including going an incredible 6-for-6 with four RBI in the
16-4 win on Saturday. Marshall Korn earned his second win of the
year in the 7-3 victory on Saturday, pitching a complete game and
allowing just four hits while striking out five batters. The
‘Roos will be looking to keep their winning streak alive when
they play East Texas Baptist in a doubleheader on Tuesday
afternoon.
Centenary clinched its third Southern Collegiate Athletic
Conference series with a 6-5 win over No. 6 Trinity on Sunday
afternoon. After a two-hour delay because of weather the Gents
rallied back in the seventh inning to capture the series. The Gents
pitching staff held the top hitting team in the conference to a
.278 average at the dish holding the Tigers to just nine runs on
the weekend, including just one run in the nightcap on Saturday
anchored by Taylor Henry’s complete-game performance.
Centenary finished with a 2.62 ERA for the three games. A trio of
Gents posted four hits on the weekend led by Craig Littleman, who
tallied three doubles, including the game-winner on Sunday. Jemari
James and Matt Creamer also registered four hits for the weekend
with Creamer leading the team with four RBI. Centenary closes out
its season-long homestand on Tuesday against LeTourneau at 6
p.m.
Dallas (10-10, 6-3 SCAC) went 1-2 (W, 14-10; L, 15-8, L,
20-1) on the week versus East Texas Baptist University (ETBU) in
Marshall, Texas. The Crusaders halted a two-game losing streak with
a 14-10 win over the Tigers on Friday evening. Jacob Bruns (1-0)
pitched 2.1 innings and was the winning pitcher of record. Sterling
Maness finished with five hits, including a double and triple. He
also tallied four RBI, four runs and two stolen bases. The fortunes
turned for head coach Fraser Holmes' squad on Saturday, as Joshua
Crapps (3-1) and Chris Schierhorn (2-1) each fell for the first
time on the season. ETBU posted 15-8 and 20-1 triumphs in the day's
doubleheader to claim the series. There were 12 combined home runs
in the three games. Dallas looks to get back on track versus
Concordia University (Tuesday, 3 p.m. doubleheader) in Austin,
Texas, before hosting Trinity University in a three-game home
series (Saturday, 1 p.m. doubleheader: Sunday, 2 p.m. nine
inning).
Southwestern went 1-4 this week playing a midweek
non-conference game against Cardinal Stritch (W 8-1) before
dropping all three games to Austin College in a SCAC weekend
series. Against Cardinal Stritch, left fielder Will Burks was 1 for
4 with three RBI. Austin College won the series thanks to wins of
7-3 and 16-4 on Saturday. The Kangaroos then swept the series with
a 5-2 win on Sunday. The Pirates are now 2-19 overall and 0-12 in
SCAC play. Southwestern returns to action on March 12 when the
Pirates host Howard Payne in non-conference action.
No. 6 Trinity went 3-2 over the past week, grabbing two
non-conference wins and taking one of three games in a weekend
series at Centenary College. The Tigers defeated Cardinal Stritch
13-3 to open the week, then earned a hard-fought 8-5 win over
DeSales on Thursday night. Trinity began the SCAC series with a 3-0
win against the Gents, then suffered its first losing streak of the
season by dropping the next two games (11-1 and 6-5). Trinity will
play four times this week, with Tuesday night’s game against
Texas Lutheran being the only home contest. The Tigers resume SCAC
play at the University of Dallas this weekend, following a Saturday
doubleheader with a Sunday afternoon game to close the series.
Trinity swept all five regular season games from Dallas last year,
then also beat the Crusaders 10-9 in an 11-inning game at the SCAC
Tournament.
