CLEVELAND, Ohio - Currently in seventh place, Trinity University leads three SCAC institutions ranked in the prestigious 2012-2013 Division III Learfield Sports Directors' Cup fall standings. Complete NACDA Release
Trinity has amassed 245.5 points in the standings on the
strength of its five NCAA appearances this fall. The Tigers placed
ninth in men's soccer, 12th in women's cross country, 17th in
women's soccer, 32nd in men's cross country and 33rd in
volleyball.
Colorado College has 133 points and is in 40th place among the 184
schools ranked. The Tigers placed 17th in men's soccer and 33rd in
women's cross country, women's soccer and women's volleyball.
Southwestern University is tied for 129th with 25 points from its
33rd place finish in women's volleyball.
Calvin (Mich.) College leads all of Division III with 308.5
points. Middlebury (Vt.) College is second with 306.5 points and
Johns (Md.) Hopkins University follows closely in third with 305
points.
The Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup was developed as a joint
effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of
Athletics (NACDA) and USA Today. Points are awarded based on each
institution's finish in up to 18 sports -- nine women’s and
nine men's.
To date, all seven fall NCAA championships have been completed with the following institutions capturing titles: women’s cross country – Johns Hopkins (Md.); men’s cross country - North Central (Ill.); field hockey – Tufts (Mass.); volleyball – St. Thomas (Minn.); men’s soccer – Messiah (PA); and women’s soccer – Messiah (PA); football – Mount Union (OH).
