PAIGE HAVEL OF UNIVERSITY OF ST. THOMAS, a senior middle blocker from Giddings, Texas, has been named SCAC Volleyball Defensive Player-of-the-Week for matches played from Monday, October 17 through Sunday, October 23. SCAC Volleyball Release (Week 8)
Havel posted 21 total blocks and 34 total points on the week, averaging 2.10 blocks per set, to lead the Celts to a perfect 3-0 week. The senior, who leads the conference in total blocks (124) and is second in blocks per set (1.39), had a team-high eight blocks in St. Thomas' 3-1 upset victory over Southwestern, just the second win over the Pirates for the program since joining the SCAC prior to the 2019 season.
Other impressive performances in the SCAC:
Junior middle blocker Maddie Fate of Trinity led the fourth-ranked Tigers to a 4-0 SCAC Crossover weekend sweep as Trinity remained undefeated atop the SCAC standings. Fate averaged 1.50 blocks/set over the weekend, which is an improvement from her season average of 1.3 blocks/set. She is also ranked fifth in NCAA III in that category this year. Fate piled up six of her 15 total blocks in the team's toughest match of the weekend, as Trinity bounced back from an opening-set loss to beat Colorado College 3-1. In addition to her defensive prowess, Fate also contributed 21 kills and five digs with a weekend hitting percentage of .459 over 10 total sets played. Sophomore middle blocker Kaylie Stuteville of Colorado College had 15 total blocks (1.15 per set), including six solo, as the Tigers posted a 3-1 mark in conference play this past weekend. She contributed 23 kills offensively. Senior defensive specialist/libero Lexi Morris of Texas Lutheran had 62 digs over three matches, averaging 5.64 digs per set, as the Bulldogs went 1-2 across two non-conference matches and one conference match. Sophomore defensive specialist Geneva Nedrow of Southwestern tallied 23 digs to help the Pirates sweep TLU in a bounce-back win for the Pirates on Friday. Rock-solid defensively all year, this marks the fifth time this season Nedrow has eclipsed the 20-dig mark in a match.
