JASON BROWN OF UNIVERSITY OF ST. THOMAS, a sophomore shortstop from Sugar Land, Texas, has been named the SCAC Baseball Hitter of the Week for games played from Sunday, March 8 through Sunday, March 14.
Brown went 7-for-11 (.636) at the plate with five runs driven in and five runs scored as the Celts took 2 of 3 from Belhaven over the weekend. He had two triples among his seven hits.
For the season, Brown is third in the league in batting average at .500, fourth in on-base percentage (.596) and seventh in slugging (.700). His 18 runs scored lead the conference and his 20 hits is good for fourth.
Other Outstanding Performances in the SCAC:
Senior outfielder Mason Meredith of Trinity was 5-for-9 (556) with three doubles, four runs scored, two runs driven in as the Tigers went 3-1 on the week. Senior first baseman Cole Irby of Texas Lutheran hit .462 with six hits and six RBI in 13 at-bats in a road series at East Texas Baptist. In Friday night's 19-4 Bulldog win, he went 4-for-5 with a double, a triple and three RBI. He reached base five times. In Saturday's second game of a doubleheader, Irby was 2-for-5 with three RBI and a double. Senior first baseman Preston Ludwick of Centenary went an impressive 7-for-17 at the plate (.412) in four wins over LeTourneau with with six runs scored, six RBI, two doubles, a homer, and two walks. He had three multi-hit games in the four game set. Sophomore shortstop Michael Jaquez of Dallas was 4-for-7 with a double, four runs scored, and two runs driven in over a three-game non-conference series at Howard Payne University. Senior outfielder Hayden Craig of Southwestern picked up two hits in four at bats with two RBIs and a run scored in the Pirates' 6-4 win over UT-Dallas. He also drew a walk and stole a base. Junior outfielder Devin Hooper of Schreiner batted .467 (7-for-15) with two doubles and three home runs as the Mountaineers went 4-2 on the week. Hooper drove in six runs and scored four times over the six-game stretch.
