LEXINGTON, Ky. -- In an announcement made Wednesday by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA), a record seven SCAC programs earned the AVCA Team Academic Award sponsored by INTENT for the 2023-2024 season.
Austin College, Colorado College, Schreiner University, Southwestern University, University of St. Thomas, Texas Lutheran University and Trinity University were seven of the 1,400 women’s programs nationwide, including 231 Division III women's programs to be honored for recording a minimum combined 3.30 grade-point average on a 4.0 scale, or a 4.10 cumulative team GPA on a 5.0 scale.
The seven SCAC programs recognized are the most in league history.
Austin College secured the award for the second-straight year after being honored last year for the first time since 2013.
This year marks the 12th year in a row for Colorado College to earn academic honors, the longest streak in SCAC history. In total this year represents the 21st time CC has achieved AVCA Team Academic honors since its inception in 1992-93.
Schreiner earned the honor for the first time since 2015.
Southwestern was recognized for the fourth-straight year and 14th time in program history. Additionally, the Pirates made the AVCA Team Academic Award Honor Roll, which represents the top 20-percent of the team GPAs in each division.
St. Thomas has now earned academic honors for the fifth time in program history and second-straight year. The Celts have now been recognized four times in the last five seasons.
Texas Lutheran secured AVCA Team Academic honors for the first time since joining the SCAC prior to the 2013-14 season.
The Trinity Tigers posted its longest streak of five-straight seasons with the recognition in 2023-24. The Tigers now have now been recognized eight times in program history following its first honor during the 2008-09 academic year.
