CHRIS PARSONS OF UNIVERSITY OF ST. THOMAS, a junior right-handed pitcher from Katy, Texas, has been named the SCAC Baseball Pitcher of the Week for games played from Monday, April 11 through Sunday, April 17. SCAC Baseball Release - Week 10
Parsons set a new St. Thomas program mark against Southwestern on Saturday as he allowed just five hits and struck out a record 14 batters in nine innings of work as the Celts walked off it off in 10 innings (4-3) against the Pirates. The 14 strikeouts equals the most by a confeernce pitcher in the a single-game this season.
Other Outstanding Performances in the SCAC:
First-year lefthander Zach Longshore of Texas Lutheran led the Bulldogs to victory with a quality seven shutout inning start against Dallas - striking out six and scattering four hits and two walks across the seven innings of work. Junior lefthander Samuel Conte of Trinity got the win in his only appearance last week to help the 19th-ranked Tigers go undefeated at 4-0 overall, including a three-game weekend series sweep in SCAC play. Conte went 8.0 innings as the starter of game one of Saturday's doubleheader, scattering six hits and giving up just one run while he recorded 11 strikeouts. His 11 strikeouts ties his career-high, which he has now reached three times this season. Junior righthander Parker Primeaux of Centenary tossed a complete game shutout to lead the Gents to a 10-0 win in seven innings over Austin College on Thursday night in the series opener at home. He allowed just three singles, did not walk a batter, and struck out six. He faced 24 batters and and threw 64 pitches, 46 for strikes. Primeaux is now 6-3 with a 3.81 ERA and a team-leading two complete games and two saves and also leads the team in strikeouts with 58. Senior lefthander Travis Harvey of Southwestern struck out seven hitters in 7.1 innings, surrendering just five hits and two earned runs in Southwestern's 6-3 win over St. Thomas.
