JONATHAN MILLER OF UNIVERSITY OF ST. THOMAS, a senior from Beaumont, Texas, has been selected the SCAC Men’s Golfer-of-the-Week for competition played through Tuesday, February 22. SCAC Golf Release (Spring - Week 1)
Miller picked up his first career win, taking home first place and being named grand champion at the D3 San Antonio Shootout after shooting one under par (215) - the only player in the 52-person field to finish under par. Miller shot a career-low 69 in the opening round as the Celts would sit atop the leaderboard after 18 holes.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Junior Christian Rodriguez of Southwestern had a phenomenal third round shooting the lowest score of the field with a 71 to finish third overall with a three-round total of 222 (+6). Senior Austin O’Brien of Schreiner finished tied for ninth, along with teammate Zhao Yung Gu, at the D3 San Antonio Shootout. O’Brien had a finishing round of 73 to move up 13 places on the leaderboard. Senior DJ Springer of Trinity, along with first-year Jacob Mason, entered Tuesday’s round tied for 10th on the individual leaderboard and each carded a four-over 76 to rise three spots into a tie at the seventh spot to lead the Tigers overall. Springer’s 72 was tied for the fourth-lowest opening round. Senior Harrison John of Centenary led the way for the way for the Gents with a six-over-par score of 78 the only golfer to shoot below 80.
