Mary-Ilyse Lehmann, University of St. Thomas, Defensive Player of the Week (Week 9)

MARY-ILYSE LEHMANN OF UNIVERSITY OF ST. THOMAS, a first-year defender from Katy, Texas, has been named the SCAC Women’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week for games played from Monday, October 23rd through Sunday, October 29th. SCAC Women's Soccer Release (Week 9)

Lehmann was the heart of a Celt defense that produced its first SCAC shutout of the year last weekend in a 4-0 victory over Centenary last Friday. The Celt defensive effort limited the Ladies to just six total shots, including only two on target. Additionally, Lehmann chipped in offensively scoring her first career goal to put St. Thomas up 2-0 early in the second half.

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Sophomore defender Ashlyn Suarez of Texas Lutheran helped the Bulldogs secure the No. 2 seed in this upcoming weekend’s SCAC Tournament with a 4-2 win over Southwestern on Friday night. Suarez and the TLU backline limited the Pirates second half chances and held the lead to capture second place in the SCAC regular season. Senior defender Josephine McCray of Trinity led the Tigers to a 3-0 shutout victory over Schreiner last Friday, finishing off the regular season schedule with another undefeated record in conference play. McCray and the Tigers scored six shutouts in seven SCAC games this year, capped by this weekend's game during which the defense didn't yield a single shot.
