Williams led the Celts’ men’s basketball team to back-to-back close victories over Schreiner and Trinity last weekend, defeating the Moun- taineers, 83-82, and the Tigers, 66-65. Williams put up 28 points, including the game-winner, on 47.6 percent shooting (10-of-21) from the field, 71.4 percent from the charity stripe (5-for-7) and 37.5 percent (3-for-8) from three-point range in Friday’s victory over previously undefeatd and seventh-ranked Trinity. Williams followed that performance with 33 points against the Mountaineers - shooting 46.4 percent (13-of-28) from the field and 87.5 percent from the charity stripe.
For the weekend, Williams added 3.5 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 5.5 steals per game to his weekend stats as the Celts now sit tied atop the SCAC standings at 7-1 (15-2 overall).
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
First-year guard Christian Green of Trinity and the Tigers ended up with a weekend split in conference play last weekend, he averaged 69.6 percent from the field on 16-for-33 shooting. Green was in double-figures in both games, scoring 22 points on 10-of-12 shooting from the field in the 66-65 loss to St. Thomas, followed by 17 points on 6-of-11 shooting from the field in the win against Centenary, 87-77. He averaged 6.0 rebounds, 4.5 assists, 0.5 steals and 1.5 blocks per game. Senior guard Tristan Dick of Austin College led the ‘Roos last weekend shooting 62.5 percent from the field (5-for-8) and 69.2 percent (9-for-13) from the charity stripe. Dick was in double-figures scoring 19 points in the win against Colorado College. He added eleven rebounds, three steals and three blocks. Sophomore center Cristian Rodriguez of Schreiner and the Mountaineers had a weekend split, escaping Centenary on Friday and falling to St. Thomas on Saturday. Rodriguez had an impressive 29 points on 8-of-12 shooting from the field and was 80 percent (12-for-15) from the charity stripe in the loss against St. Thomas and 4 points in the win against Centenary. He added 6.0 rebounds, 2.0 assists, 1.0 steals and 0.5 blocks per game last weekend. Junior forward Devin Philio of Colorado College led the Tigers last weekend scoring in double-figures against Dallas. Philio put up 4 points in the loss against Austin College, followed by 15 points on 7-of-8 shooting from the field. He added 5.0 rebounds, 0.5 assists, 0.5 steals and 1.5 blocks per game. Senior guard AJ Hall of Centenary led the Gents with two double-digit scoring performances. Hall had 14 in the loss to Schreiner and a season-high 26 points in the loss against Trinity. He added 3.0 rebounds, and 0.5 blocks per game.
