STEVEN KUANG AND HUNTER-KEMBALL COOK OF UNIVERSITY OF ST. THOMAS, have been named the SCAC Men’s Doubles Team of the Week for matches played from Monday, February 27 through Sunday, March 4. SCAC Men's Tennis Weekly Report - Week 5
Kuang, a sophomore from Guangzhou, China, and Cook, a sophomore from Friendswood, Texas, had an outstanding week in doubles, helping secure the St. Thomas' first team victory of the spring. The duo showed poise as they battled back from a 7-3 deficit at the No. 3 line to earn an 8-7 victory against Grove City College, who was an 2022 NCAA tournament competitor.
Other Outstanding Performances in the SCAC:
First-year Ashton Ellis and sophomore Oscar Roy of Southwestern earned an 8-4 victory at No. 1 doubles over the Schreiner team of Carson Kirk and Austin Cervantes in the Pirates' 9-0 sweep on Saturday. Juniors Rob Chang and Dalton Locke of Trinity helped the 13th-ranked Tigers to a 7-2 road win over No. 38 Hardin-Simmons over the weekend, improving the team's record to 5-2 this season. Chang and Locke scored an 8-6 win at line three that kept Trinity from getting swept in doubles, but the team trailed 2-1 heading into singles play. The Tigers responded to that momentum shift by sweeping the singles matches and cruising to victory. First-years Brody Smith and Logan Randall of Texas Lutheran won their second career doubles match, 8-7, against the No. 2 team from Austin College in conference play on Saturday.
