LEAH TORRES OF UNIVERSITY OF ST. THOMAS, a first-year golfer from Kingwood, Texas, has been selected the SCAC Women’s Golfer-of-the-Week for competition played from Wednesday, February 26 through Tuesday, March 4. SCAC Golf Release (Spring - Week 3)
Torres shot an opening round 74 (+2) to help the Celts to a fifth place tie at the abbreviated Schreiner Shootout. The tournament was shortened to 18 holes after heavy winds made the course unplayable on Tuesday.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Junior Sloane Panter of Southwestern had an opening round 80 (+8) to tie for 17th and lead the Pirates at the abbreviated Schreiner Shootout. Sophomore Abby Yanta of Schreiner, along with teammate senior Lauren Alfaro, paced the Mountaineers at the Schreiner Shootout, with both golfers firing rounds of 84 (+12). First-year Raelynn Leifeste of McMurry posted a first round score of 86 (+14) to lead the War Hawks at the Schreiner Shootout. First-year Belle Asbury of Texas Lutheran led the Bulldogs through the opening round of the Schreiner Shootout with an 18 hole score of 15-over (87). First-year Amber Shaw of Centenary led the way for the Ladies on Monday as she shot a 19-over par 91 and tied for 48th place at the abbreviated Schreiner Shootout. Sophomore Paige Zehner of Concordia (Texas) represented the Tornados at the Schreiner Shootout and finished with a 96 (+24).
