SPOKANE, Wash. – Colorado College placed all five of its runners in the top-35 and finished fifth to lead all SCAC squads at the NCAA Division III West Region Saturday morning.
Sophomore Elliot Singer, the reigning two-time SCAC champion, earned all-region honors (top 35 finishers) for the second consecutive year with an 18th-place individual finish, completing the 6K course in a time of 22:29.2.
Claremont-Mudd-Scripps captured the team title with 37 points, followed by Pomona-Pitzer (73), UC Santa Cruz (112), George Fox (121) and Colorado College (127).
Less than a minute separated Singer and the fifth CC finisher as senior Clare Quinn finished 22nd (22:37.2), junior Jane Mallach secured 27th (22:48.9), junior Na’ama Nevo took home 32nd (22:57.2) and first-year Ella Fullerton rounded out the All-Region Tigers finishing 33rd (22:59.4).
Trinity secured a top-10 team finish, taking home ninth with a total team score of 249. Senior Elaine Kaster earned All-Region honors for the second-straight season, finishing 34th in a time of 22:59.7. Ellie Catron finished inside the top 50 with a time of 23:23.2, good enough for 48th.
St. Thomas competed in its first NCAA regional and earned 21st to round our the SCAC team performances on Saturday. The Celts were led by senior Sophia Sanchez who finished 110th with a time of 25:17.5.
A handful of SCAC athletes competed as individuals, led by Texas Lutheran’s Mackenzie Payne and Southwestern’s Breanna Steele. Payne finished 106th (25:11.3), while Steele took home 128th (25:52.1).
A total of 32 teams will compete as a team at the NCAA Division III Championships, with the top finishing team from each of the 10 regions receiving an automatic bid and 22 bids awarded to at-large teams. In addition, 70 individuals, not on qualifying teams, earn automatic selection based on their finish at the regional.
The team and individual selections will be announced on Sunday, Nov. 13. The NCAA Division III Championship is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 19, in Lansing, Mich.
