DANIEL CASTRO OF UNIVERSITY OF ST. THOMAS, a senior forward from Houston, Texas, has been named the SCAC Men’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week for games played from Monday, October 7th through Sunday, October 13th. SCAC Men's Soccer Release (Week 7)
Castro scored a league best five goals last week, including a pair of multigoal efforts in wins over Ozarks at home and Concordia on the road. Casto opened the week with a brace in a 6-1 win over the Eagles, then scored the Celts lone goal in a 2-1 loss at McMurry before recording his second brace of the week in a 3-1 win over the Tornados. He has now scored in four straight fixtures and five of his last six to bring his yearly goal total to nine, tied for the second most in the SCAC.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Senior forward Louis Catchpole of Austin College continued his torrid season, notching his second hat trick of the season with three tallies in a win over Centenary as the ‘Roos went 1-1 on the week. Junior midfielder Adam Knutson of Trinity was key in the Tigers' wins over Texas Lutheran and Southwestern this weekend. In the game against TLU, Knutson had the assist that led to the crucial game-tying goal, and against nationally-ranked Southwestern, he scored both goals for the Tigers - one with a shot from beyond the 18 and he produced the game-winner by dribbling through three Pirate defenders. Knutson now leads the SCAC in goals (10) and in points (23). Senior midfielder Bailey Sawyer of University of the Ozarks had a breakout game against Dallas, scoring a pair of goals in the Eagles' big 3-1 road conference win. Sawyer came back against Austin College and had an assist to post a five-point weekend. A starter in all three matches, Sawyer accumulated four shots, with two of those on frame. Senior midfielder Alexander Ward of Colorado College propelled the Tigers to a 2-0 weekend in wins over Concordia (3-0) and McMurry (4-0). Ward finished the weekend with three points after scoring a goal and assisting on another against the Warhawks on Sunday. Ward also led the Tigers with six shots (four on goal). Senior defender Diego Roman of Texas Lutheran had the game-winning goal in Sunday's 2-0 victory at Schreiner. Junior forward Arik Phillips of McMurry had a goal, his first of the season, in the War Hawks' 2-1 victory against St. Thomas. First-year forward Nathan Uduojie of Centenary scored the game-winning goal for the Gents in their 3-1 comeback victory on Sunday at Dallas as he found the net in the 63rd minute. The rookie now leads the team in goals and has a pair of game-winning goals this season.
