LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. -- In an announcement made today from conference headquarters, University of St. Thomas' Luis Bencomo was named the 2021 SCAC Men’s Soccer Elite 19 award winner.
Bencomo, a senior defender from Barquisimeto, Venezuela, currently holds a cumulative GPA of 3.861 in Finance and earned First Team All-SCAC honors this season. He was also named the league's Defensive Player-of-the-Year and was selected to the All-Tournament team after helping to guide his Celts to the program’s first-ever SCAC title earlier this month.
Bencomo is the second St. Thomas men's soccer student-athlete to earn an SCAC Elite 19 honors as former Celt Tom Hultsch earned the honor following the 2019 season.
Established prior to the 2018-19 academic year and meant to recognize the best of the best within each of the league's 19 sponsored sports as it relates to both academic and athletic achievement, the SCAC Elite 19 is awarded to the student-athlete who has completed the equivalent of at least 60 credit hours at his or her current institution and has at least a cumulative 3.25 GPA. The student-athlete must also have earned All-SCAC First or Second Team honors in his/her sport for that particular season.
