ERIK GARZA OF THE UNIVERSITY OF ST. THOMAS, a junior outfielder from Cypress, Texas, has been named the SCAC Baseball Hitter of the Week for games played from Monday, April 18 through Sunday, April 24. SCAC Baseball Release - Week 11
Garza was outstanding at the dish last week, leading St. Thomas to a 3-1 record, including a sweep over Dallas and currently holding the final SCAC Tournament slot going into the last weekend of the regular season. He hit .429, going 6-for-14 with nine RBI, four runs scored and two home runs. Garza also walked one to post a .500 on-base percentage and slugged .857 for the week.
Other Outstanding Performances in the SCAC:
Senior first baseman Preston Ludwick of Centenary recorded his 150th career RBI in his final home series last weekend in a sweep over Southwestern. Ludwick finished the weekend, 3-for-9 at the plate with two RBI and three runs scored. Junior catcher Gerardo Cardoza of Schreiner finished the week hitting .500 at the plate, going 8-for-16 with five RBI, two runs scored, one double and one triple to help the Mountaineers post a 2-3 record. Junior shortstop Joe Jimenez of Texas Lutheran batted .462 at the plate, going 6-for-13 with four RBI and three doubles in four games last week for the Bulldogs. Jimenez also scored three times and stole one base. Junior utility player Ezra Gore of Trinity led the Tigers to a 2-1 record against No. 25 Texas Lutheran last week, taking over the top spot in the SCAC standings after winning the weekend series. Gore batted .455 (5-for-11) over the three games, scoring six runs and driving in another. He started the series with a 2-for-4 performance, scoring three runs and recording two steals.
