LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - 
The 2020-21 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Women’s Soccer season got underway last week with four league contests and all eight teams in action. After the opening weekend of league play, four teams are tied atop the table with three points.  

Centenary (4-0-0, 1-0-0) is perfect through four games for the third consecutive season after defeating LeTourneau (2-1), Piedmont (3-0) and Mississippi University for Women (4-0) in non-conference action before knocking-off St. Thomas (0-1-0, 0-1-0), 3-0, on the road last Friday. Ten different Ladies have found the back of the net through the opening four fixtures, led by sophomore Avery Gilbert with three. Ten different Ladies have found the back of the net through the opening four fixtures, led by sophomore Avery Gilbert with three. In the win over St. Thomas, senior Pamela Fonseca registered the game-winner when she scored her first of the season in the 25th minute. Senior goalkeeper Maggie Pitcher has posted three shutouts in net for Centenary, allowing just one goal while recording 16 saves in the opening four contests for the Ladies.

Dallas (1-0-0, 1-0-0) won its opener for the first time since the 2012 season after defeating Schreiner (0-1-0, 0-1-0), 1-0, at home last Saturday. The Crusaders, who outshot the Mountaineers, 18-6, broke through in the second half when freshman Avery Seaman scored her first career goal in the 69th minute. The Seaman tally was assisted by sophomores Alyssa Mencacci and Bridgette Alpar.

Trinity (1-0-0, 1-0-0) opened the season with its 118th-straight SCAC regular season victory last Saturday on the road against Austin College (0-1-0, 0-1-0), 1-0. The Tigers held a definitive 29-3 edge in shots taken, which included a 14-1 advantage in shots on goal. Sophomore Cassie Bowers scored the lone goal on an unassisted tally in the 35th minute to help secure the win for Trinity.

Reigning SCAC Tournament champions, Southwestern (1-0-0, 1-0-0) closed out the weekend by defeating Texas Lutheran (0-1-0, 0-1-0), 3-1, on Sunday afternoon in Georgetown. It is the second-straight season the Pirates have won their opener. TLU took an early 1-0 lead after sophomore Liliana Avila scored in the sixth minute. Southwestern would tie the game going into the half on a goal from junior Whitney Whitehill in the 44th minute. The Pirates went to work quickly in the second half when senior Maya Fuller scored the game-winner in the 46th minute and got the insurance goal off the foot from senior Annie Ewton in the 72nd minute.

SCAC action continues this week with four league matches as Centenary hosts Austin College, Schreiner squares off against St. Thomas in Houston, Southwestern takes on Trinity in San Antonio and Texas Lutheran will travel to play Dallas in Irving.
