LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. -- Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference softball continued last week with all eight teams in action as five different conference series took place.
Texas Lutheran (20-4, 11-0) extended its regular season winning streak to 34-straight contests last week after sweeping both Trinity (8-6, 4-4) and Schreiner (7-19, 2-7). Junior Skylar Ouellette led TLU to a perfect 6-0 week, including a 5-0 mark in SCAC play by hitting .375 and driving in eight. She had at least one RBI in each of the six games. She also stole three bases. Ouellette homered in the series-opener against Schreiner. She drove in three in the final game of the four-game set with the Mountaineers. She had two doubles, a walk, and a stolen base in the first game of the doubleheader sweep of Trinity. In the circle, freshman Sydney Ouellette recorded three wins and a save. In 16.2 total innings, she pitched two complete games, allowed just three earned runs, scattering eight hits and striking out eight batters, while posting a 1.26 ERA.
Trinity bounced back after a pair of losses to TLU to sweep Austin College (2-12, 1-10) in a three-game series last weekend. Jordyn Williams hit .545 against the ‘Roos to lead the Tigers at the plate. In Friday’s series opener at Austin College, she tied the game with a three-run homer in the top of the seventh and led the team’s final-inning rally for an 8-7 win. Williams also had a homer in game two of the doubleheader and finished the series with two hits and three RBI in each of the three games. On the week, Williams batted .438 (7-for-16), posted a .471 on-base percentage and a .938 slugging percentage. In the circle, Cat Patterson appeared in four of the team’s five games last week, tallying 12.2 total innings and recording a team-leading 2.21 ERA. The highlight of her week was a one-hit shutout in game two of the Austin College series. After allowing a leadoff single, Patterson retired 15 consecutive batters to close out the run-rule victory.
St. Thomas (15-8, 10-2) has now won eight of its last nine SCAC contests after sweeping Dallas (2-11, 2-10) in a three-game series last weekend. Lindsey Longuet went 2-0 in the circle with two complete game shutouts, including a no-hitter in the Celts, 8-0, win last Friday to close out the series. In 13 total innings of work, Longuet struck out 16 batters, allowed just two hits and posted a 0.00 ERA. Mia Terry led the way at the plate with a .667 (6-for-9) batting average, six RBI, two runs scored and two stolen bases.
Centenary (14-12, 7-4) earned a 2-1 series win over Southwestern (8-13, 6-6) last weekend, splitting the opening day doubleheader before posting a 2-0 shutout victory in the rubber match on Saturday. It marked the first time in program history the Ladies have won an SCAC series over the Pirates. Centenary has now won five of its last six contests. Mackenzie Cox led the way at the plate for the Ladies, batting .600 (6-for-10) with three runs scored and two extra base hits. Hailee Leger picked up both wins in the circle for Centenary. She tossed a pair of complete game shutouts with six total strikeouts to secure the series victory for the Ladies. Leger scattered just eight hits over the course of 14 innings and walked just three batters. Of her 148 pitches combined in the two outings, 104 of them were for strikes.
SCAC softball continues this week with five more conference series scheduled as all eight teams are in action.
