Austin College Women Come Up Short Against Trinity

SHERMAN, Texas - The Austin College women's soccer team opened their 2021 spring campaign with an outstanding defensive effort, but the 'Roos were unable to find the equalizer in a 1-0 loss to Trinity on Saturday afternoon.

Maya Erwin made four first half saves and Meredith Harris had eight after halftime, as the Austin College defense repeatedly turned away Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference preseason favorite Trinity despite the Tigers holding a 29-to-3 shot advantage in the game. It was a back and forth affair early on in the match, and it looked like things might be headed to halftime with both teams scoreless before Trinity's Cassie Bowers weaved her way through the 'Roo defense and found the back of the net in the 35th minute of action to make it 1-0.

That would wind up being the only tally of the game, as Austin College put all three of their shot attempts on the board in the first half, while Trinity managed 17 shots in the second half but was kept off the scoreboard after the break. The 'Roos are back in action next weekend when they travel to Shreveport, La. to take on Centenary on March 6.
