LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - The fifth week of SCAC Volleyball continued this week with three teams going 2-0 in conference play, including the nation’s top two teams – Colorado College and Trinity.
No. 1 Colorado College (10-0; 10-0 SCAC) continued its winning streak with a weekend sweep over Texas Lutheran. Junior Georgia Mullins led the Tigers to a 3-0 victory Friday with a match-high 12 kills, hitting .478 with just one error on 23 swings. First-year Isabella Lipacis finished with nine kills and 11 digs, with senior Allie Freeburg adding seven kills. The Tigers posted a season-high .386 hitting percentage in Saturday’s 3-0 win. Mullins once again led CC with a match-high 13 kills on 17 attacks for a season-best .765 hitting percentage. Isabelle Aragon-Menzel dished out 33 assists. Isabella Vasquez hit a season-best .583 with sever kills on an error-free 12 attempts, with Lipacis hitting .467 with 10 kills on 15 swings with only three misfires. Texas Lutheran (1-7; 1-7 SCAC) was led by Madison Weisinger on Friday with six kills, while Lexi Morris recorded a team-high 13 digs. Paige Day led the Bulldogs Saturday with eight kills and seven digs, with Lexi Morris adding a team-high nine digs.
No. 2 Trinity (8-2; 8-2 SCAC) secured back-to-back sweeps with a pair of 3-0 decisions against University of Dallas Saturday. In their first victory the Tigers were led by senior Annie Rose Leggett with four of the team’s 16 kills. Marisa Amarino had nine assists to add to the team attack rate of .600. Avery Tuggle, Sara Flynn and Annie Rose Leggett represented the Tigers who reached double-digit kills in Saturday's competition at 23, 13 and 10 kills, respectively. Leggett and Tuggle were also two of five to reach double figures in digs with 16 and 11, respectively. The senior duo was joined by Sami Lin who led with 17 digs and Lexie Acevedo had 15 while leading with 33 assists. For Dallas (1-7; 1-7 SCAC), Cassie Dyoub had six kills in the first match and Isabel Garcia had seven in match two, hitting .333 in the process.
Southwestern (3-3; 3-3 SCAC) was the third team to go 2-0 over the weekend with 3-2 and 3-1 victories over St. Thomas. In their first victory of the day, Riley Brantley led the Pirates with 17 kills on an efficient .368 hitting percentage and two block assists for 18 points. Katelyn Whitehead and Lauren Crabtree set the table with 30 and 22 assists, respectively, adding 13 and 14 digs to each finish with a double-double. In match two Lauren Crabtree posted her fifth career triple-double with 11 kills on a team-high .321 hitting percentage, 20 assists, and 17 digs with an ace and a block assist to lead the Pirates in a four-set victory. For St. Thomas (5-3; 5-3 SCAC), Kaylyn Latin recorded a game-high 29 digs, while Kelsie Walker dished out a team-high 22 assists. In match two, Lauren Arthur had a match-high 14 kills and Latin added 32 digs.
Centenary (2-6; 2-6 SCAC) split a pair of matches Saturday against Schreiner in its home opener. Centenary took the first set of match one, 28-26, and Schreiner responded with consecutive wins in sets two (25-21) and three (25-19). The Ladies then took set four, 25-20, to send it to a deciding fifth set which Centenary won, 15-11, for a 3-2 match one victory. Jaycie Proctor recorded 76 digs over the two matches, 36 in match one and 40 in match two.
Schreiner (2-8; 2-8 SCAC) earned its spilt in the second match against Centenary. Schreiner won the first two sets of match two by scores of 25-23 and 27-25. Centenary then won the third set, 25-17, and the Mountaineers sealed the win in the fourth set, 25-19.
The sixth week of Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Volleyball continues with four conference matchups, including upper division matchups between St. Thomas and Trinity and Austin College and Colorado College.
