SAN ANTONIO, Texas -- Third-seeded Schreiner opened the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Men’s Tennis Championship with a 5-0 quarterfinals victory over No. 6 Texas Lutheran Thursday night at Trinity’s Butch Newman Tennis Center.

The Mountaineers improved to 7-11 and will take on second-seeded Southwestern in the semifinals. The Bulldogs concluded their season with a 1-11 mark.
Thursday’s match was moved from Friday because of potential inclement weather. Tournament officials hope to play the semifinals Friday, because of heavy rain potential on Saturday, at the North East ISD Tennis Center. The championship match is scheduled for Sunday.
Schreiner jumped out to a 3-0 lead after doubles. Mario Gallinar and Max Schechter opened the matchup by winning the third line 8-0 over Johari Dramiga and Cameron Bivens. Luis Cabreja and Austin Cervantes won the second doubles 8-2 over Quintin Johnson and Dristan Weaver.
The tightest doubles match was the top line as Schreiner’s Carson Kirk and Dennis Miller outfought Matthew Stephenson and Ryan Schulte 8-7.
The Mountaineers Gallinar was first off the court in singles, winning the sixth line 6-0, 6-0 over Bivens. The clincher for Schreiner came at No. 4 singles as Cervantes beat Johnson 6-2, 6-0.
No. 1 singles between Cabreja and Stephenson was halted, as was the second line between Weaver and Schreiner’s Carson Kirk. The third match between Miller and Texas Lutheran’s Schulte was called, as was the fifth-line pairing of Schechter and Dramiga.

Schreiner advances to meet #2 seed Southwestern University in the semifinals, which are currently scheduled for 11:00 a.m. Friday at Blossom Athletic Center.
