LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. -- Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference softball continued last week with four teams in action, highlighted by Texas Lutheran opening league play with a three-game series at home against Southwestern over the weekend.

TLU (8-3, 3-0) went 4-1 last week, including a sweep over Southwestern (4-7, 3-3) over the weekend in Seguin. Kelly Jurden hit .588 with eight runs scored and 10 stolen bases to lead the Bulldogs in the five contests. In the SCAC series against the Pirates, Jurden hit .600 (6-10), scored seven runs, stole five bases, hit a double and a triple and drove in one run. In the circle, Ashlyn Strother was dominant in all three of her appearances last week for the Bulldogs. The right-hander tossed 15.2 shutout innings and struck out 11. She picked up a pair of victories - in starts against Concordia Texas and Southwestern. In the six-inning victory over Southwestern, she allowed just two hits and struck out four. Strother improved to 4-0 and lowered her season ERA to 0.80.

Centenary (9-8, 2-0) went 3-3 last week in six non-conference contests at the Hardin-Simmons/McMurry Spring Break Tournament in Abilene, Texas. The Ladies picked up wins over Concordia (4-1), McMurry (5-3; 8 Inn.) and Hardin-Simmons (3-1). Freshman Cambry Bates led the Ladies at the plate going 7-for-18 (.389) with three RBI, one home run and one run scored. Bates finished the week with a .389 on-base percentage and a .556 slugging percentage. Freshman Hailee Leger continued her outstanding rookie campaign in the circle for Centenary, earning a win and a save in four appearances. In total, Leger pitched 16.2 innings, allowing just three earned runs, and striking out 11. She posted a 1.26 ERA and averaged 4.62 strikeouts per seven innings over the weekend.  

St. Thomas (7-7, 2-1) posted a 3-2 record last week in five non-conference contests at the Hardin-Simmons/McMurry Spring Break Tournament. The Celts defeated Hardin-Simmons (11-4), Concordia (7-5) and Howard Payne (7-0). Freshman Ariana Brown led the way at the plate, batting .467 (7-15) with three multi-hit games. She finished with week with one RBI, one stolen base, a .500 on-base percentage and a .467 slugging percentage. Lindsey Longuet collected all three wins in the circle for the Celts posting a perfect 3-0 record. In 21 innings of work, Longuet struck out 18 batters, scattered 21 hits and posted a 2.67 ERA.

SCAC softball action continues this week highlighted by St. Thomas visiting Centenary and Dallas hosting Austin College in three-game conference series.
