SCAC Announces Women's Soccer Tournament Bracket

For the first time in league history, the first round of this year's postseason event will be played on campus sites around the league with the top four seeds hosting quarterfinal round action beginning this weekend. Normally conducted over one weekend among the top six teams at a single predetermined site, this year the top eight women's teams will qualify for the postseason conference tournament which will stretch over two weekends.

First round play will be conducted Saturday April 17 with the four remaining teams advancing to Texas Lutheran the following weekend. The semifinals will be played Friday, April 23 and the championship match will be Saturday, April 24.

Conference tournament seeding was based on Points Percentage, which is defined by the total points accumulated by a team divided by the total possible points a team could have accumulated based on actual games played.

1) Trinity (7-0-0; 1.000 points percentage)
2) Southwestern (5-1-0; .833 points percentage)
3) Dallas (4-2-0; .667 points percentage)
4) Centenary (4-3; .571 points percentage)
5) Texas Lutheran (3-3-1; .476 points percentage)
6) St. Thomas (2-5-0; .286 points percentage)
7) Austin College (1-5-1; .190 points percentage)
8) Schreiner (0-7-0; .000 points percentage)

Trinity earning the top-seed for the 10th consecutive season after completing the regular season with a perfect 7-0 conference mark (1.000 points percentage). In the history of the SCAC Women’s Soccer Tournament the Tigers have won nine of a possible 11 tournament titles. Trinity will host eighth-seeded Schreiner (0-7-0; .000 points percentage) on Saturday. This weekend’s fixture will mark the third time in tournament history Trinity and Schreiner have gone head-to-head, most recently in the 2018 semifinals when the Tigers earned a 5-0 win over the Mountaineers. In their meeting earlier this season back on March 13th Trinity defeated Schreiner, 5-0.

Southwestern (5-1-0; .833 points percentage), the defending SCAC Tournament Champions, has earned the second seed for the third-consecutive season. The Pirates snapped Trinity’s run of nine consecutive SCAC Tournament titles last year after 110 minutes of scoreless double overtime soccer, Southwestern defeated the Tigers 5-4 in penalty kicks. Southwestern will host seventh-seeded Austin College (1-5-1; .190 points percentage), who returns to the tournament for the first time since 2014. Saturday’s meeting will be just the second all-time fixture between the Pirates and the ‘Roos in the SCAC Tournament as Austin College defeated Southwestern, 1-0, in the 2014 quarterfinals. Earlier this year, Southwestern defeated Austin College, 1-0, on March 13th in Sherman.

Dallas (4-2-0; .667 points percentage) will enter the 2020-21 tournament as the third seed. The Crusaders are looking for their third-consecutive trip to the semifinals and sixth appearance overall. The last time Dallas went into the SCAC Tournament as a three seed, they advanced into the semifinals after defeating Schreiner, 2-0, in the quarterfinals in 2014. Dallas will host sixth-seeded St. Thomas (2-5-0; .286 points percentage), who is making its SCAC Tournament debut. This fixture will be a rematch of the final game of the regular season for the Crusaders when Dallas defeated St. Thomas, 1-0, on the road on April 1st.

Centenary (4-3-0; .571 points percentage) secured the fourth seed and the final quarterfinal hosting slot. The Ladies are looking to return to the semifinals for the second-straight tournament and the third time in the last four years. Centenary will host fifth-seeded Texas Lutheran (3-3-1; .476 points percentage) as the Bulldogs are hopeful to return to the semifinals for the first time since 2017. This will be the first-ever meeting between the two programs in tournament history. Centenary defeated TLU, 2-0, in Seguin back on March 27th.
