LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. -- The fifth week of Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Baseball continued this week with the first conference-matchups of the season.  

Centenary (16-2; 3-0 SCAC) had a 3-0 record over the weekend against Austin College. In Friday’s 15-10 victory, four Gents posted multi-hit performances led by senior second baseman Tyler Erickson went 4-for-6 with three RBI and a run scored. His four hits are a single game season-best. In Saturday’s double-header, Centenary swept the weekend series, winning 13-4 and 16-1 in seven innings. The Maroon and White continued their offensive output as the Gents have now scored 10 or more runs in a game 10 times this season, and 11 or more eight times. Centenary scored at least 13 runs in all three games of the series. For Austin College (4-6; 0-3 SCAC), Nick Flynn had six hits in 14 at bats (.429).

Southwestern (4-9; 2-1 SCAC) dropped a game against Concordia (Texas) at the beginning of the week but bounced back with a 2-1 series win against St. Thomas Friday and Saturday. Southwestern swept the double-header Saturday with 16-6 and 15-4 victories. The Pirates set the tone early, with starting pitcher Travis Harvey striking out two in the top of the first and retiring three of the first four hitters he faced. In game two, Daniel Montgomery Jr. continued with a breakthrough day, going 2-for-3 with an RBI and three runs scored, which included his second home run of the day – a solo blast in the seventh – that led the Pirates to the 15-4 win. Southwestern compiled its 15 runs on 11 hits, seven walks, and took advantage of three errors from the Celts. 

St. Thomas (12-3; 1-2 SCAC) claimed its 12th win of the season with a 10-7 victory over Southwestern on Friday before dropping a pair of games on Saturday. On Friday, in the top of the ninth, UST created some breathing room with a four-run inning to extend its lead to six. Parker Edwards recorded a two-run double to secure the Celts’ first ever conference victory.

The University of Dallas (4-8; 2-1 SCAC) had a 5-4 victory over Hardin-Simmons to earn a non-conference split on Tuesday. On Saturday, Dallas opened conference play with a split against Schreiner, earning a 15-11 victory in game one. The Crusaders scored the first three runs of the game with runs in the first, fourth and fifth innings. In the first, Nathan Patton hit a two-out double followed by an RBI double by Ross Lowe to lead Dallas to its first conference win. The Crusaders won the series at Schreiner with a 10-8 victory on Saturday. On a day that head coach Erik Grafton used six different pitchers, Ethan Mann threw the most innings for UD on a day Coach Grafton used six different pitchers. The freshman hurled 3.1 innings and did not allow a run while striking out three. 

Schreiner (6-10; 1-2 SCAC) dropped a pair of double-headers against Mary Hardin-Baylor at the beginning of the week. In the conference weekend series against Dallas, the Mountaineers posted its lone victory in the series opener by a 6-5 margin. Schreiner got all the offense it needed with six runs in the bottom of the fifth. Jeffrey Williams’ two-run double was the big blow. 

Texas Lutheran (7-5; 0-0 SCAC) was the lone team that played non-conference only competition and the Bulldogs grabbed the second game of a home doubleheader with Our Lady of the Lake, securing a 5-2 victory. In game two, Simon Scales hit his first home run as a Bulldog to give TLU a 2-1 lead in the third and finished with three RBI. Cole Irby had two more hits for TLU in the second-game win, as did Austin Colon. Caleb Maly was 2-for-2 with a run scored, an RBI, and a double.

Week 6 continues seeing four more conference matchups on the schedule, including top-ranked Trinity at St. Thomas, Austin College at Texas Lutheran, Schreiner at Centenary and Southwestern at Dallas.
