LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. -- After ten months without competition the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference is back with the Men’s Basketball season tipping off last weekend.

This year, teams will play a 12-game conference-only schedule with six doubleheader road weekends and six doubleheader home weekends. The top eight teams, based on regular season results, will qualify for the 2021 SCAC Tournament.

For the second year in a row Austin College (2-0) opened the season 2-0 with the only undefeated mark of the week. The Roo’s picked up their fi rst victory of the season with a one-point win over Dallas on Friday. Michael Holland’s buzzer-beater from long distance gave the Roo’s the 81-80 victory. Jason Jones led the way Saturday, fi nishing the 78-66 win with his fi rst collegiate double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds. Letrell Toussaint led the Crusaders, with 19 points and 18 rebounds Friday, grabbing 13 points and 11 rebounds Saturday.

Centenary, Texas Lutheran, St. Thomas, and Trinity all opened the season splitting games over Friday and Saturday.

The defending SCAC Tournament Champions, Centenary (1-1) Gents opened Friday with a 61-52 victory over Texas Lutheran. Sophomore Seth Thomas led the Gents, posting a game-high 18 points and grabbing 11 rebounds in 27 minutes.

Texas Lutheran (1-1) gained their fi rst victory of the season with a 68-55 win over Centenary on Saturday. Seniors Jamir Mason (14 points), Caleb Lister (13 points) and Sebastian Andrade (12 points) led the Bulldogs, making nearly half its total shots, 47.9 percent.

St. Thomas (1-1) opened the season with a 61-53 win over Trinity on Friday. Freshman Adam Kanafani led the Celts posting 16 points in the second half, fi nishing with a double-double with 18 points and 14 rebounds. 

Trinity (1-1) earned their spilt with a 77-73 victory over St. Thomas, Saturday. Kaleb Jenkins paced the Tigers with 19 points in 23 minutes off the bench.

Schreiner and Southwestern games scheduled for Friday (January 15) and Saturday (January 16) were cancelled.

SCAC Men’s Basketball continues next week highlighted by Schreiner, Colorado, and Southwestern all opening their seasons Friday.
