Texas Lutheran opens 2021 spring regular season with 3-1 loss at Southwestern

GEORGETOWN, Texas -- Texas Lutheran Women's Soccer opened its 2021 spring regular season with a 3-1 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference road loss to Southwestern University.
 
Southwestern moved to 1-0 overall and to 1-0 in the SCAC.
 
TLU dropped to 0-1 and to 0-1 in the SCAC.
 
TLU led early with an unassisted goal from Liliana Avila, who scored at teh 5:21 mark.
 
Southwestern tied the match at 1-1 with a Whitney Whitehill goal in the 44th minute.
 
The Pirates took the lead 41 seconds into the second half on an unassisted goal from Maya Fuller.
 
Annie Ewton made it 3-1 Southwestern with a goal in the 72nd minute. Juliet Pridgen provided the assist.
 
TLU out-shot Southwestern 14-11, and each team had nine shots on goal.
 
Johnna Campbell made eight saves for Southwestern. Elana Rivera collected six saves for TLU.
 
TLU returns to Gustafson Field for its next match. The Bulldogs host Our Lady of the Lake University at 7 p.m. on Tuesday. TLU will have live video and live stats for the match.
