LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. -- It was another full weekend of SCAC basketball with eight teams on the schedule.
Trinity (5-1) swept Texas Lutheran, posting a 77-66 win on Friday and a 51-50, come-from-behind last-second victory on Saturday.
Sophomore Kaleb Jenkins led the way for Trinity on Friday with 13 points while Texas Lutheran’s Sebastian Andrade had a game-high 25 points for the Bulldogs. On Saturday, first-year guard/forward Abdullah Roberts hit the game-winning turnaround in the lane with a second remaining in a game Trinity ever led until the end. Jenkins recorded 11 points with a game-high four steals, and first-year Tanner Brown added 10 points off the bench to aid in the win.
Southwestern (3-1) went 2-0 over the weekend with victories over Colorado College, on Friday (66-57) and Saturday (81-67). Kyle Poerschke led the Pirates on Friday, recording 18 points and eight rebounds. In Saturday’s win, Jacob Hester finished with 20 points to lead
Southwestern, hitting 6-of-8 from the field, including 3-of-5 from deep. Colorado College’s Jack McRoskey led the Tigers, scoring 13 points Friday, followed by 28 points on Saturday.
Four teams split games over the weekend.
Centenary (4-2) recorded a 76-73 win on Friday over Dallas. Junior Kile Mingo led the way for the Gents with 20 points off the bench. Seth
Thomas recorded a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds.
Dallas (1-5) claimed a 67-60 victory over Centenary on Saturday - its first of the season. Five Crusaders scored in double figures on Saturday, with Marcus Juarez in the lead with 14 points. Jai Love followed Juarez with 13 points, Jack Boyle and Louis Christifano each had 11 points, and Cameran Hyde added 10.
In non-conference play, Schreiner (0-2; 1-3) recorded its first win of the season with a 91-88 over St. Thomas on Friday. The Mountaineers were led by senior Chase Pinter who finished with a team-high 22 points and six rebounds. First-year Brennan Zeiner had a breakout performance adding 17 points and six rebounds to aid in the victory.
St. Thomas (3-1; 4-2) earned its split with Saturday’s 88-63 victory over Schreiner. Juan Hood led the Celts with a career-high 27 points. Cameron Gims also had a strong contribution, finishing with a double-double of 17 points 10 rebounds.
The fourth week of SCAC Basketball action continues Friday and Saturday, with eight teams in competition.
