LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. -
Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference men’s soccer continued last week with three conference contests highlighted by Southwestern vaulting to the top of the table and Centenary opening league action on Sunday.

Southwestern (2-0-0, 2-0-0) has won its opening two games in league play for the first time since the 2016 after defeating Schreiner (0-2-0, 0-2-0), 1-0, on Saturday in Kerrville. The win lifts the Pirates to the top of the table with six points on the season. Jackson DeHaven scored the game-winning goal in the 17th minute off an assist from Richard Maybury. Jack Viles made for saves in net for Southwestern as the Pirates have posted back-to-back shutouts to open a season for the first time since 2009. Southwestern outshot Schreiner, 16-11, and held an 8-1 edge in corner kicks. Cody Smith registered five saves and Jonathan Bejarano was credited with three shots, two on goal, for Schreiner in a losing effort.

Centenary (1-1-1, 1-0-0) won its SCAC opener for the second consecutive season after picking up a narrow victory at home Sunday afternoon against Dallas (1-2-0, 1-2-0), 1-0. Scoreless through 80 minutes, Andres Bautista found the back of the net in the 82nd minute off a feed from Xavier Noyola-Ramirez to lift the Gents to victory. A physical match that saw seven yellow cards and 46 fouls, Centenary outshot Dallas, 27-12. Chase Reynolds fired four shots on the afternoon for the Crusaders, while Goncalo Pernans grabbed seven saves in net for Dallas.

St. Thomas (1-1-1, 1-1-0) evened its record in conference action, defeating Texas Lutheran (1-2-0, 1-2-0) at home last Saturday, 1-0. After a scoreless opening 45 minutes, Kelvin Cardona scored the lone goal of the contest in the 63rd minute to help secure three important points for the Celts. Defensively, St. Thomas limited TLU to just two shots and zero on net as the Celts posted their second shutout in the last three games. The two Bulldog shots were the fewest since TLU recorded just two shots in a game against Concordia back on Sept. 9th, 2017.

SCAC returns to action this week with three conference fixtures. On Saturday, Schreiner hosts Colorado College and Austin College will open its season on the road at Centenary, while Dallas will travel to Houston to take on St. Thomas on Sunday.
