LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. -
Heading into the final three weeks of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference men’s soccer season six teams currently sit with a record of .500 or better in league play as the race tightens for the SCAC Tournament scheduled for late April.

Colorado College (3-1-1, 3-0-1) defeated Centenary (2-3-1, 2-2-0), 2-0, at home last Saturday in the lone contest of the week for both teams. It marks the second time in the last three years CC has been unbeaten in conference play through its opening four fixtures. After of few early key saves from Colorado College goalkeeper Keleher Felton, the Tigers broke through in the 40th minute when Skyler Stark-Ragsdale netted his second career game-winning goal off an assist from Kevin Peterson. CC added an insurance goal early in the 72nd minute when Jackson Silverstein found Kiran Singh for his team leading third goal of the season. The Tigers produced a 6-2 advantage in corner kicks, while each team launched 10 shots. Felton finished the game with three saves as CC posted its first clean sheet of the season. Gents’ goalkeeper Sam Borchalli finished with five saves and Andres Bautista led the way offensively with three shots for Centenary.

Trinity (3-0-1, 3-0-1) opened its home schedule with a pair of fixtures last week, starting with Southwestern (2-0-2, 2-0-2) on Friday as the Tigers and Pirates battled to a 1-1 draw after 110 minutes. Trinity opened the scoring in the 37th minute when Kyle Davis was hauled down in the box rewarding the Tigers with a penalty kick. Fraser Burns stepped to the mark and buried the penalty to give Trinity a 1-0 lead heading into the half. Late in the second half with Southwestern still trailing despite applying pressure with six second period corners and a 9-2 shot advantage, Pirates’ freshman Jacob Piat tied the game with just five minutes remaining in regulation. Piat laced a shot in the back off the net after it bounced out to him off a deflection from the Southwestern corner. Despite being outshot 5-2 in the overtime periods, Southwestern finished the match with a slight edge in shots, 14-13, including a 5-4 advantage in shots on goal. Juan Carlos Vidales tied his career-high with four saves in net for Trinity, while Jack Viles finished with three saves for Southwestern. Trinity then closed out the weekend by defeating St. Thomas (3-2-2, 3-2-1), 5-2, in a wild affair on Sunday afternoon, with all seven goals coming in the second half. Trinity’s Pieter Blank uncorked the scoring explosion in the 50th minute when he found the back of the net following a shot from Quentin Van Der Lee who was credited with the assist. Five minutes later, Phillip Duenez put the Tigers up 2-0 with his first of the season on a direct feed from Davis, set up by Burns. Burns scored what turned out to be the game-winner in the 78th minute on the first of two Wesley Mitchell assists, as Mitchell would then find Jesus Veloz just nine seconds later to give Trinity a 4-0 lead. St. Thomas then responded with back-to-back goals in the 81st and 82nd minute from Ian Alvarez and Chen Adjei, before Gabe Salako capped the second half scoring in the 88th minute with an unassisted goal to secure Trinity’s 5-2 win. The five goals conceded by the Celts are the most they have surrendered in SCAC play since joining the league. The previous high was three scored by Colorado College during the 2019 season.

Luis Green tied the Texas Lutheran (3-2-0, 3-2-0) men’s soccer record for goals in a match with four goals as the Bulldogs defeated Schreiner (0-5-0, 0-5-0) last Saturday in Kerrville. Green recorded a natural hat trick, scoring the opening goal in the 16th minute, then opening the second half with goals in the 48th and 52nd minutes. Schreiner notched the fourth goal of the game to bring the Mountaineers within two after Dustin Scott scored his second of the season in the 58th minute off an assist from Frankie Menchaca. TLU would add an insurance goal in the 76th minute from Jorge Ugaz before Green buried his historical fourth goal in the 86th minute. Three of Green’s four goals were assisted by Nicolas Medina. Green is the first SCAC athlete to score four goals in a single game since Southwestern’s Evan Perkins scored four against TLU in 2012. Green’s four goal effort marks just the 27th time in league history an athlete has scored four or more goals in a single game. Oglethorpe’s Zach Atkinson holds the all-time SCAC record for goals in a game with seven, set back in 2004.

Dallas (2-3-1, 2-3-1) earned its first road win of the season last week, defeating Austin College (0-4-0, 0-4-0), 3-1, on Saturday. The ‘Roos struck quickly when Mickey Maloney beat a few defenders down the line before finding Jacob Tekle for his first goal of the season less than two minutes into the match. The Crusaders erased a 1-0 hole when Brady McNamara scored the first of his two goals on the afternoon in the 35th minute. McNamara then scored the game-winning goal in the 37th minute off an assist from Chase Reynolds. It was the second assist on the year for Reynold who now has a team-high eight points this season. Karson Pannell put the game away for Dallas in the 75th minute with his first career goal. Dallas finished the contest with a 16-13 advantage in shots, with both teams taking eight in the first half.
