LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. -- Four Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference series highlighted the softball schedule as all eight teams were in action last week for the first time all season.

Texas Lutheran (14-4, 6-0) posted a perfect 5-0 record last week, defeating Texas A&M-San Antonio in a pair of non-conference games on Wednesday before sweeping Austin College (2-9, 1-7) over the weekend. TLU’s Rebecca Snow hit .500 at the plate to lead the Bulldogs and drove in nine total runs, including five in the three-game series sweep of Austin College. She recorded an RBI in each of the five games. Her slugging percentage for the week was .857 and her on-base percentage was .611. She had three hits and two RBI in the series-opening win over Austin, and she drove in three with a pair of doubles in a win over Texas A&M-San Antonio. She had five doubles during the week. In the circle, Ashlyn Strother struck out 21 batters in 11 innings of work and recorded a pair of wins. She posted a one-hit shutout with eight strikeouts against Texas A&M-San Antonio and then tossed a two-hit shutout with 10 strikeouts against Austin College. She also appeared in relief in the final game of the Austin series and struck out all three batters she faced. She averaged 13.36 Ks per seven innings for the week and 15.17 Ks per seven innings in conference action. Austin College’s Elizabeth Preston finished the series 2-for-6 with one double and one RBI.

St. Thomas (12-8, 7-2) took two of three at home from Trinity (5-4, 1-2) last weekend as the Tigers returned to action for the first time since February. The Celts won the opening two games of the series, 5-0 and 6-3, before Trinity took game three, 4-3, to avoid the sweep. Emma Garrett led the way at the plate for St. Thomas, batting .625 (5-for-8) with four runs scored, four RBI, a double and a triple. She also drew two walks to post a .700 on-base percentage and slugged 1.000 for the series. Lindsey Longuet went 1-1 in the circle for St. Thomas, pitching a complete game shutout with five strikeouts in the opener. Jordyn Williams hit .300 (3-for-10) to lead Trinity at the plate, including a two-RBI knock to right-center to lift the Tigers to victory in game three. Williams finished the series with four RBI. Allie Hoolbrook tossed a complete game in the final matchup to secure the win in the circle. She scattered eight hits across her seven innings with a trio of strikeouts.

In a tight series, Southwestern (7-11, 5-4) earned a series victory at home against Schreiner (7-15, 2-4) after defeating the Mountaineers, 3-1, on Sunday in the rubber match. Schreiner took game one, 4-3, in nine innings before the Pirates forced the rubber match with a, 2-1, nine inning victory of their own in game two on Saturday. The team that scored first went 3-0 on the weekend. Danielle Pedraza drove in the game-winning run in the opener for the Mountaineers, while Maddie Mefford had the winning RBI for Southwestern in game two. Tori Montemayor collected both wins in the circle for Southwestern, pitching two complete games, striking out 10 batters and scattering 10 hits in 16 innings of work. Montemayor also contributed at the plate, driving in two runs in the final game of the series.

In the final series of the weekend, Centenary (12-11, 5-3) swept Dallas (2-8, 2-7) on the road, limiting the Crusaders to just three runs in three games, including shutout in the opener. Erin Lewis was outstanding at the plate for the Ladies, posting a sizzling .889 (8-9) batting average. Lewis had multiple hits in all three games and finished the series with five RBI, two runs scored, two doubles, one home run and one stolen base. Liz Cordova recorded three hits over the weekend for Dallas, including a 2-for-3 performance and an RBI in Sunday’s 4-1 setback.

SCAC softball continues this week with all eight teams in action and five difference league series scheduled starting on Tuesday when Texas Lutheran takes on Trinity in San Antonio.
