LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. -
The 2020-21 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Men's Soccer season got underway last week with four league contests and seven of the league's nine teams in action. After the opening weekend of conference play, four teams are tied atop the table with three points.

Southwestern (1-0-0, 1-0-0) won its opener for the first time since the 2017 season when the Pirates knocked off Texas Lutheran (1-1-0, 1-1-0), 1-0, on Sunday afternoon. Freshman forward Nathaniel Blake buried the lone goal in the 28th minute of his collegiate debut as the Pirates outshot the Bulldogs, 12-7, including an 8-2 advantage in shots on goal.

In the Bulldogs opening fixture of the season, TLU earned a 2-1 victory on the road at Dallas (1-1-0, 1-1-0) last Thursday. It was reigning SCAC Player-of-the-Year Luis Green who scored both goals in the win to give the junior 40 for his career.

The Crusaders bounced back from their opening loss to defeat Schreiner (0-1-0, 0-1-0), 1-0, in double overtime at home on Saturday afternoon. Junior Jose Martinez slotted away the goal in the 102nd minute on a pass from senior Chase Reynolds. Reynolds finished the week with three points, as he scored the goal in the loss to TLU earlier in the week. Schreiner goalkeeper Cody Smith finished the game with 10 saves, as Dallas outshot the Mountaineers, 29-10.

Colorado College (1-1-0, 1-0-0) is the fourth team tied atop the SCAC standings with three points after the Tigers earned a dramatic, 2-1, home victory over St. Thomas (0-1-1, 0-1-0) on Saturday. The Celts jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first half thanks to a goal from sophomore Fabrizio Policastro in the 27th minute. Colorado College, however, would respond in the second half, finding the equalizer in the 77th minute when senior forward Kiran Singh scored on a header from the center of the box off a feed from his brother, sophomore Sajji Singh. The late game dramatics came courtesy of freshman Alexander Ward who struck for the game-winning goal with just 32 seconds remaining to lift the Tigers to victory. It is the third-straight year and fourth in the last five that Colorado College has opened league play with a win.

In non-conference action, Centenary (0-1-1, 0-0-0), opened with a loss to LeTourneau and then played to a 2-2 draw last Tuesday against East Texas Baptist. Senior Greg Petreas and freshman Matthew Hern scored the goals for the Gents in a hard-fought tie that saw Centenary receive two red cards and finish the game with just nine men.

SCAC action continues this week with three league matches as Centenary hosts Dallas, Southwestern takes on Schreiner in Kerrville and Texas Lutheran will play its first home fixture of the season against St. Thomas.
