COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- Junior middle hitter Georgia Mullins was named the Sports Imports/AVCA Division III National Player of the Week for her dominating performance during last weekend's Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference victories over then-No. 1 Trinity University.
Mullins, who also was named SCAC Player of the Week, hit .510 and averaged 3.38 kills per set during the two matches.
In Friday's 25-19, 25-22, 25-21 win, the program's second-ever victory over an opponent ranked No. 1 in the AVCA Division III Coaches Top 25 Poll, Mullins hit a blistering .625 with 10 kills on an error-free 16 attacks.
Less than 24 hours later, Mullins put down a season-high 17 kills while hitting .455 as CC rallied for a 25-23, 18-25, 22-25, 25-22, 15-9 victory. She also had a hand in five blocked shots and recorded two digs and two assists.
"I am very excited for Georgia and of course all her teammates that contributed to her success this past weekend," head coach Rick Swan said. "Georgia has worked extremely hard and I'm thrilled to see her be rewarded for her effort."
For the season, Mullins leads the Tigers with a .315 hitting percentage and is third with an average of 2.59 kills per set. She also is first averaging 0.64 blocks per set.
Mullins joins two-time recipient Lizzy Counts (2016, 2017), Aria Dudley (2017). Meredith Ballard (2008) and Sarah Boyles (2001) as the only CC players to earn the AVCA's national weekly honor since its inception in 1998.
The two victories over Trinity were the program's second and third over an opponent ranked No. 1 at the time of the match. In 2017, the Tigers swept Calvin College 25-22, 25-16, 25-22 at the Elmhurst Invitational on Sept. 16.
Yesterday, Colorado College was ranked No. 1 in the AVCA poll for the second time in program history. The first time CC was ranked No. 1 was Oct. 31, 2017.
The Tigers put their 6-0 record and share of first place in the SCAC on the line this weekend when they travel to Georgetown, Texas, to face Southwestern University on Friday and Saturday, March 12 and 13.
