NEW BRAUNFELS, Texas -- Top-seeded Southwestern University overcame rain delays and a change of venue to earn a 5-0 win in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Women's Tennis Tournament Semifinals over Schreiner University on Friday night.

Southwestern, the NCAA Division III West Region's top-ranked team, soars into its fifth consecutive SCAC Championship match, improving its season record to 14-4. Schreiner wraps up its season with a 6-12 overall record. The Pirates got midway through doubles at Blossom Tennis Center earlier today, but rain halted the match, and eventually led to move to indoor courts at the Newcombe Tennis Ranch.
After the restart, Southwestern quickly took a 3-0 lead after doubles, beginning with an 8-1 victory at line two by Nina Mitrofanova and Mariana Quetzeri. Esther Bowers and Taylor Despriet ensured the Pirates of the lead heading into singles with an 8-2 top-line win.
In singles, the Pirates took the opening set in four matches, but Nina Elez was the first one to wrap up her match at line four with a 6-0, 6-0 win. Bowers finished off the shutout with a 6-0, 6-2 clinch at line two.
