LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. -- The SCAC office tonight announced the bracket for the 2021 women's basketball tournament, which will be begin Friday, March 5. Women's Tournament Bracket | Official Tournament Website | Week 6 Women's Basketball Recap

For the first time in league history, the postseason event will be played on campus sites around the league with the top four seeds hosting quarterfinal round action beginning this weekend. Normally conducted over one weekend among the top six teams at a single predetermined site, this year the top eight men's and women's teams will qualify for the postseason conference tournament which will stretch over three weekends.

First round play will be conducted the weekend of March 5-7, semifinals are scheduled for March 12-14 and the men's and women's championship will occur the weekend of March 19-21. The top four seeds will host first round games on both the men's and women's side, and the top remaining seeds will host semifinal and championship rounds.

Changes were made to the event this year primarily to maintain the league's current testing cadence related to COVID-19 protocols

*The seeds for this year's women's tournament are as follows:
1) Trinity (7-2 SCAC; 7-2 overall)
2) Colorado College (6-2 SCAC; 6-2 overall)
3) Texas Lutheran (5-3 SCAC; 5-3 overall)
4) Schreiner (5-3 SCAC; 5-3 overall)

6) St. Thomas (4-4 SCAC; 4-4 overall)
7) Dallas (4-6 SCAC; 4-6 overall)
8) Southwestern (2-6 SCAC; 2-6 overall)

This marks the sixth straight year the Trinity University women (7-2) enter as the tournament's No. 1 overall seed, and eighth time overall (in non-divisionally seeded championships). Trinity went on to win the championship five of the times it has been the top seed (2003, 2013, 2016, 2017 and 2018) and added an additional tournament title in 2005 as the No. 2 seed.

Colorado College (6-2) achieved its highest seeding in program history for the second consecutive tournament. After earning the No. 3 seed last year, the Tigers will be the No. 2 seed at this year's event.

Texas Lutheran University and Schreiner University both tied with 5-3 conference marks, but by virtue of its victory against the higher-seeded team (Austin College), the Bulldogs will be the No. 3 seed. TLU has had success as the three seed, winning the title on its home floor in 2019 to become the first team in the current bracket era to win three games in three days and hoist the conference championship trophy.

Schreiner secured the No. 4 seed and the final quarterfinal hosting slot. This is the second consecutive year the Mountaineers have been the four seed.

Rounding out the bracket, Austin College (5-4), the defending tournament champion, is the fifth seed, and University of St. Thomas (4-4), who will participate in its first-ever SCAC basketball tournament, is the sixth seed. The University of Dallas (4-6), who upset second-seeded Colorado College on Sunday, will be the seventh seed and Southwestern University (2-6) is the eighth seed.
