COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- Top-seeded Colorado College advanced to its fourth straight conference title match after cruising to a sweep of fourth-seeded Austin College in the semifinals of the 2020-21 SCAC Volleyball Championship on Saturday afternoon. Official Championships Website
The victory sets up a "BCS" style volleyball national championship match next weekend in Colorado Springs as AVCA #1 Colorado College will take on AVCA #2 Trinity University for the conference title.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Colorado College (16-0) hit a blsitering .425 as a team and did not trail at all during the first set. The Tigers raced out to a 15-4 lead on a kill by Isabella Vasquelead before ending the set on a 10-5 run to take set one 25-9 and a 1-0 lead.
- Austin College (9-7) took an early 2-1 lead in the second set. An ace from Shelbi Cook gave tied the match for the Kangaroos. Colorado College then answered with a 12-3 run to extend the Tiger lead to 16-7 after a block assist from Emma Hewlin and Isabella Vasquez. Colorado College then took a 2-0 lead with a 25-11 win.
- The Tigers raced out to a 10-3 third set lead after a kill from Georgia Mullins. The Kangaroos were able to cut the lead to 12-8 after a kill from Caitlin Mahoney. CC then clamped down and finished the set on a 13-4 run to take the set (25-12) and the match 3-0.

- Colorado College improved to 4-0 lifetime against Austin College in SCAC volleyball tournament play, having picked up previous victories in 2012, 2014, and 2016.
- The victory earned CC its fourth straight trip to the SCAC volleyball championship match.
- Next up for CC is a home match against Trinity University, who the Colorado Tigers swept 3-0 and 3-2 in back to back matches March 5 and 6.
- This will be the seventh match-up between the two programs in SCAC tournament play, including the fifth time these two programs have met in the championship match. Colorado College holds a 4-2 mark against Trinity in the SCAC tournament, including wins in the championship in 2011, 2012, and 2017.
