LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. -- Highlighted by two Southern College Athletic Conference series, seven of the league’s eight softball teams were in action last week.

Dallas (2-5, 2-4) split a four-game series at home against Austin College (2-6, 1-4) but in the first three indicated conference games, the Crusaders earned a 2-1 series win in walk-off fashion. In the opener, Elizabeth Preston, Lyndsey Busch and Andrea Saucedo all drove in a run for the ‘Roos and Hannah Richendollar struck out two and got the win in the circle in a 3-2 Austin College win. It marked the first SCAC win for Austin College since April 7th, 2019. In a wild game two affair that featured 25 runs, Austin College scored a pair of unearned runs in the top of the seventh before Dallas responded with two runs in the bottom half of the inning for a walk-off, 13-12, victory. It was the first win for new head coach Christian Novak.  Devinne Green, who drove in the winning run, finished the game with three hits, two RBI and a run scored. In the rubber match of the three previously indicated counting conference games of the series, Dallas once again walked it off in the bottom of the seventh inning, this time by a score of 4-3. Annabel Anderson scored the winning run and finished the game with two hits and two runs scored. Emily Martin threw a complete game with five strikeouts to earn the victory in the circle. The win secured the first conference series win for the Crusaders since the 2018 season. Austin College scored nine runs over the final three innings to bookend the four-game series with a 12-6 victory. Preston went 2-for-4 at the plate with three RBI and a run scored, while Alice Maisonet didn’t give up an earned run in 3.1 innings pitched and struck out a pair to earn the win in the circle to lead the ‘Roos.

St. Thomas (10-7, 5-1) swept Centenary (9-11, 2-3) in a three-game series in Shreveport in the other conference matchup of the week. In the opener, St. Thomas scored six runs on the top of the 10th to earn an 8-3 victory. Mia Terry and Emma Garrett both drove in a pair of runs to lead the Celts at the plate, while Lindsey Longuet went all 10 innings with eight strikeouts to get the win in the circle. Centenary jumped out to a four-run lead through three innings in game two, but a four-run top of the seventh secured a St. Thomas come from behind, 6-4, victory. Garrett delivered with two more RBI and scored her third run of the series in the win for the Celts. St. Thomas closed out the series with a 17-hit performance in an 8-1 victory in game three. Brenna Ruether went 4-for-4 at the plate with five RBI and Garrett posted her second multi-hit performance of the weekend going 3-for-5 with three runs scored. Longuet got her second win of the series in the circle with another complete game performance and five strikeouts.

In non-conference action, Texas Lutheran (9-4, 3-0) split a doubleheader with Houston-Victoria, falling in the opener ,7-5, before picking up a win in game two, 8-0 in five innings. In the win Haley Padilla went 2-for-3 at the plate with two RBI and two runs scored to lead the Bulldogs. Sydney Ouellette pitched a complete game, scattering three hits and striking out one.

Schreiner (4-13, 1-2) went 1-5 last week, splitting two games with Hardin-Simmons and was sept by McMurry and Our Lady of the Lake University. The Mountaineers defeated the Cowgirls 7-3 in game two last Tuesday. Carrie Fulton drove in four runs and scored a run to lead Schreiner at the plate. Kaylee Culpepper got in the win in the circle after allowing just one earned run in a complete game effort.

Southwestern (4-9, 3-3) dropped two games to East Texas Baptist in its only action last week.

SCAC softball continue this week, highlighted by four conference series that get started on Friday. St. Thomas is hosting Trinity, Texas Lutheran will be on the road at Austin College, Centenary and Dallas will meet in Irving and Southwestern entertains Schreiner in Georgetown.
