CC Runs Out of Time against Colorado Christian

Senior midfielder Miles Montgomery scored once and set up a second goal, but the Colorado College men's soccer team ran out of time and Colorado College Christian University escaped Stewart Field with a 3-2 victory on Saturday afternoon.

The Cougars built a 3-0 lead when Ben Hess scored on a crossing shot with a little less than 25 minutes to play, but buoyed by the knowledge that they had carried the run of play for most of the game, Montgomery and the Tigers mounted a spirited comeback.

Montgomery put CC on the board when he knocked in the rebound of Skyler Stark-Ragsdale's shot in the 75th minute.

With just under seven minutes to play, Atticus Lynch pulled the Tigers to within a goal when he drilled a low shot from the top of the box inside the right post after CCU goalkeeper Max Collingwood punched Montgomery's corner kick away.

Despite being out-shot 11-5 in the second half, the Cougars were able to run out the final 6:50.

"I think there are certainly some positives to take away from today's game," head coach Scott Palguta said. "We created enough goal-scoring opportunities to win the game, and we showed some determination to get back into the game in the second half."

Colorado Christian broke through with 17:17 remaining in the first half when Dmitri Fabro scored on a penalty kick. The Cougars made it 2-0 just 2:25 into the second half when a rebound went to Liam Lakey who was alone near the goal line and he scored in an open net.

The Tigers nearly scored two minutes into the game, but Collingwood stopped a header by Kiran Singh off of a Montgomery direct kick. Not long after Colorado Christian's second goal, Mason Davis drilled a shot off the crossbar that would have cut CC's deficit in half.

"We simply can't concede three goals on our home field and expect to win," Palguta said. "Our transition defending need to improve and we have to make smarter decisions with the ball. We will grow and learn from this game and be better prepared for St. Thomas next weekend."

Colorado College finished the game with a 15-10 advantage in total shots and a 7-3 edge in corner kicks.
