Freshman defender
Alexander Ward struck for the game-winning goal with just 32 seconds remaining to give Colorado College a dramatic 2-1 victory over the University of St. Thomas on Saturday afternoon on Stewart Field.
Ward's first collegiate goal was scored off a feed from senior midfielder
Miles Montgomery, who took a short corner from sophomore midfielder
Will Taylor outside the box on the right side.
The Celts broke through in the 26th minute on a goal by Fabrizio Policastro off of a corner kick from Jair Perez. Junior goalkeeper
Keleher Felton mishandled the high corner and Policastro put the ball in an open net from inside the 6-yard box.
Felton recorded four saves for the Tigers.
CC tied the game in the 77th minute when senior forward
Kiran Singh scored on a header from the center of the box off of a feed from his brother, sophomore midfielder Sajji Singh.
The Tigers had several promising scoring chances, including a header from senior defenseman
John Schuler that sailed over the crossbar, but they weren't able to convert.
CC had seven corner kicks, compared to two for St. Thomas.
