Colorado College, Southwestern Advance to Second Round of NCAA Tournament

RICHARDSON, Texas -- Colorado College and Southwestern University will face off four the fourth time this season in the regional semifinal of the NCAA Volleyball Tournament Saturday.

Colorado College defeated Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges 3-1 and Southwestern took down the University of La Verne 3-2. Trinity University fell 1-3 to Hendrix College.

Colorado College dropped the first set in their match against the Athenas 15-25 before storming back to take three straight sets and earn the win.

The Tigers' victory over CMS was the highest-ranked opponent that CC has beaten during head coach Rick Swan's 19-year tenure. With the victory Colorado College improved to 28-5 on the season.

Southwestern jumped out to a first-set win, but La Verne capitalized on service errors early in the second set to jump out to a large lead. The Pirates came close, but couldn't recover and dropped the set 22-25. La Verne also took the third set, 24-26, before SU rallied to post 25-21 and 15-10 wins to close it out.

In the first set against Hendrix, Trinity fell 21-25, but the Tigers bounced back to earn a 25-18 win in the second. Hendrix came out on fire in the third set, sprinting to a 17-9 lead, and the Tigers never recovered as the Warriors went back in front 2-1 in the match.  The fourth set was close, but after Trinity led 19-17, Hendrix tied the match 21-21, and won four of the last five to close out the win.
