Tyer, Lambeth Continue NCAA Doubles Run, Gideon, Snovely fall

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. -- Trinity University's Wilson Lambeth and Matt Tyer rallied from a first set loss to earn the win and advance to the quarterfinals of the 2017 NCAA Doubles Championship.

Lambeth and Tyer defeated the fourth-seeded team of Zachary Bessette and Jayson Fung of Amherst (MA) College 1-6, 6-4, 6-4 in the round of 16.

Southwestern University's doubles pair of Grant Gideon and Nickoloz Snovely fell in three sets to Erik Kerrigan and Ninan Kumar of the University of Chicago.

The Tiger tandem became the first Trinity men's doubles team to reach the quarterfinals since Bobby Cocanaugher and Cory Kowal achieved that feat in 2010. The duo also reached the Division III Doubles Championship match last fall of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Oracle Cup at Surprise, Arizona.

The Pirates' match went the distance, but Southwestern's duo came up short in a 2-6, 6-3, 3-6 decision.

Gideon and Snovely, who were doubles partners for the last three seasons, made history as the first two players in program history to qualify for the national tournament.

This event marks the first NCAA Championship event for all four players.
