MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – D3football.com released the 2016 preseason All-Americans Monday and two Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference student-athletes were recognized.
Texas Lutheran University’s Marquis Barrolle and Trinity University’s Julian Turner both earned second team honors. This is the second year in a row that Barrolle has earned pre-season honors from D3football.com.
Barrolle, a senior running back, averaged 71.0 yards during his junior campaign, totaling 710 yards for the season. He averaged 4.9 yards per carry, down slightly from his 2014 average of 6.0. In 2014, he had an impressive sophomore season, where he led the nation in rushing with 1,792 yards, while averaging 162.9. Last season, he notched seven rushing touchdowns for the Bulldogs.
Through his career at Texas Lutheran, Barrolle has averaged 106.8 yards per game, totaling 2884 over the three years. He has collected 25 rushing touchdowns. On the receiving end, he has added another three touchdowns. He has also totaled 535 receiving yards in his career.
Turner, a senior linebacker for the Tigers, earned preseason All-American honors following a successful junior season, where he earned the SCAC Defensive Player of the Year award for the second year in a row. In 2015, he ranked second in the conference with 109 total tackles, averaging 10.9 per game, however, he led the league in solo tackles with 55. On the season, he also notched 15 tackles for a loss for 51 yards, which was also second in the SCAC.
The SCAC enters the final season of football competition on September 3, 2016. These two stand outs will meet on the field October 8th in Seguin and October 29th in San Antonio.
