LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - The Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference announced the 2017 SCAC Women's Tennis all-Tournament team this morning. Complete Release
Liza Southwick of Trinity earned All-Tournament honors for the fourth consecutive year. She received recognition for doubles this year after earning all-tourney honors for both singles and doubles in 2015 and 2016. Like this year, she earned recognition for doubles in 2014. Her doubles partner this year Marie Lutz has earned all-tourney honors the last two years for singles and doubles. She was an all-tourney selection for doubles in 2015. Austin College's Grace Ortiz has earned all-tournament honors for singles the last three years.
Other student-athletes who are repeat honorees include Andrea De Leon and Caroline Kutach of Trinity, Alli McLain and Megan Ingram of Texas Lutheran, Caryle Lide of Austin College and Maranda Kahl of Southwestern.
The 16th-ranked Trinity University women's tennis team won its sixth consecutive SCAC title with a 5-0 victory over 28th-ranked Southwestern University on Sunday. With the victory, the Tigers secured the league's automatic berth into the NCAA Tournament.
Winners of seven straight matches, the Tigers improved to 17-7, and the championship gives Trinity 21 SCAC women's tennis titles to its credit.
The Tigers doubles teams set the tone for the match by winning all three matchups. Liza Southwick and Marie Lutz won at #1 doubles, Caroline Kutach and Zoe Kaffen took the second line, and Andrea De Leon and Mary Kaffen were victorious in the #3 match.
Kutach handily won #2 singles, and Lutz clinched the dual match by winning the third line.
