MEDFORD, Mass. - The third-ranked Trinity men's soccer team was upset 4-0 by #5 Kenyon (OH) College Saturday afternoon in the NCAA Division III Men's Soccer Championship Round of 16 at Tufts University.
Although Kenyon had seven shots on goal and a 10-3 advantage in shots, Trinity kept the game scoreless until the 40th minute, and the Lords held a 1-0 lead at the half.
After halftime, Kenyon quickly added an insurance goal with less than two minutes elapsed. Less than 10 minutes later, it was 3-0 Kenyon with a goal in the 53rd minute.
The Lords finished off the scoring with an 87th-minute score. Trinity held a 10-8 edge in shots for the second half, but only three of those were on target.
- Trinity ended its season with a 22-2-0 record, while Kenyon advanced to the Quarterfinals with a 20-2-0 mark. Kenyon will take on host Tufts in Sunday's Quarterfinals.
- The Tigers had advanced to the Elite Eight for the past three campaigns. Trinity competed in its 15th consecutive NCAA Tournament, the longest active streak in Division III.
- The game marked the first time Trinity had been held scoreless all season, and the last time the Tigers were shutout was also in the NCAA Playoffs - a 1-0 loss in the 2015 Quarterfinals against Amherst.
